When (the hawk) said, "I am very hungry," the king said, "I have vowed that I will not refuse anyone who comes to me for refuge. Therefore, I will not fail to give you (food) either." Then, The hawk said, "If, as the king says, you protect all beings, and if you do not even give me my food, then I will also lose my life. Am I not included among all beings?" The king said, "If I give you other meat, will you eat it?" The hawk said, "If I have freshly killed raw meat, I will eat it." The king then thought to himself: If I give it freshly killed raw meat, it is unreasonable to kill one to save one, it is meaningless. Thinking this, he thought again: Apart from my own body, all other living beings cherish their lives very much. Thinking this, he took a sharp knife, cut off the flesh from his thigh, and gave it to the hawk, thereby redeeming the life of the pigeon. The hawk said, "King, you have become a benefactor, treating all beings equally. Although I am just a small bird, please treat me equally. If you want to redeem the life of the pigeon, please weigh it with a scale to make it equal." The king ordered, "Bring a scale!" So, the pigeon was placed on one end of the scale, and the cut flesh was piled on the other end. Even when all the flesh from the thigh was cut off, it was still lighter than the pigeon. Both shoulders, the ribs on the left and right sides, and all the flesh on the body were cut off, but it still could not be equal to the pigeon. The king then got up and tried to step into the scale, but because he was weak and powerless, he fell to the ground and fainted. After some time, he regained consciousness and rebuked his own mind like this: From beginningless time, you have not been able to do it, so you have been wandering in the three realms, suffering various kinds of pain, and have not accumulated merit. Now is the time to start diligence, not the time to be lazy. He stopped himself (from retreating thoughts) in various ways, and then diligently walked to the other end of the scale. At that time, a great joy arose in his heart, thinking, "Now it is good!" At that moment, the earth and sky shook in six ways, and the palaces of the gods also shook and tilted, the realm of form

All the gods descended and resided in the sky above. The Bodhisattva practiced extremely difficult austerities, making his body completely unusable. Seeing these actions of disregarding body and life for the sake of the Dharma, tears fell like rain, weeping, and divine flowers fell like rain, making offerings. At that time, Indra transformed into his former body and said to the king: "King, what do you desire by doing such extremely difficult austerities? Do you wish to become a Chakravartin king? Or Indra? Or the King of Demons? Or the Lord of the Three Realms? What do you desire?" The Bodhisattva said: "What I desire is not the great enjoyment of the three realms. Whatever good deeds I do, I desire unsurpassed Bodhi." Indra said: "Like this, your body is destroyed and becomes unusable, experiencing pain reaching the bones, do you not regret it?" The king said: "I do not regret it." Indra said: "Although you say you do not regret it, looking at your trembling body, so weak that you are almost out of breath, unable to even speak, how can one believe that you do not regret it?" The king said: "From beginning to end, I have not had even a hair's breadth of regret. Whatever I desire will undoubtedly be fulfilled. If these words I speak are true, then by the power of this truth, may my body be restored to its former state, without any wounds." As soon as he spoke, the king's body became even better than before. All the gods and humans in the world rejoiced and praised, finding it extremely rare. At that time, at that time, King Shibi was the present Buddha. The Bhagavan, even in the past, for the sake of many sentient beings, did not cherish his own life. Now the Bhagavan's ocean of Dharma is complete, the Dharma banner is raised, the Dharma drum is sounded, and the Dharma lamp is lit. The time has come to benefit and bring happiness to sentient beings. Why not teach the Dharma, completely abandon all sentient beings, and enter into Nirvana?

I. At that time, the King of Brahma folded his palms before the Tathagata and praised and extolled, saying: How did the Tathagata seek the Dharma in his previous lives? For the sake of sentient beings, he even gave away thousands of heads! At that time, the Bhagavan, in accordance with the request of the King of Brahma, went to the place of giving fearlessness in the Deer Park of Varanasi and turned the wheel of Dharma. Thus, by turning the wheel of Dharma, the Three Jewels also became manifest in the world. At that time, after saying this, all the gods, humans, nagas, yakshas, asuras, and the eight classes of non-humans were exceedingly joyful and followed accordingly. The chapter showing various examples is the first chapter. First, the chapter showing various examples.
