First, the chapter on showing various metaphors. First, the chapter on showing various metaphors. The Sutra of the Wise and the Foolish, Volume 1, Chapter on Showing Various Metaphors. Thus have I heard, at one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in the victorious mandala of the Magadha country, having attained perfect enlightenment. Not long after, he thought to himself: These sentient beings have been completely defiled by inversion for a long time, and it is very difficult to teach and subdue them. Even if they remain in the world, there is no benefit. Therefore, it is better to completely enter into complete nirvana. As soon as he thought this, the gods of the Brahma realm knew and understood the Blessed One's thoughts, descended from the sky, and arrived at the place where the Blessed One was. Having arrived there, they bowed their heads at his feet, folded their palms, and requested and urged the Blessed One to turn the wheel of Dharma. To this, the Blessed One said: Gods of the Brahma realm, these sentient beings are completely covered by the filth of sin, attached to the happiness of the world, and without a mind of wisdom. Even if they remain in the world, their actions will be meaningless. It is better to pass into nirvana. Then, the gods of the Brahma realm again prayed to the Blessed One: Blessed One, the ocean of Dharma is completely full, the banner of Dharma is erected, and the time for teaching and subduing has come. There are also very many sentient beings who will be liberated from this. Why does the Blessed One intend to enter nirvana? Do not abandon the protector and refuge of these extremely pitiable ones. Blessed One, in the past, beyond countless eons, you sought and searched for hearing for the benefit of sentient beings. Even for the sake of a single small verse, you abandoned your own body, wife, sons, and daughters. Why abandon these who have no protector (missing page here) ? In the distant past, in this Jambudvipa, there was a great king named Excellent Color, who ruled this world, a king.

That king possessed eighty-four thousand small kingdoms. Within sixty thousand great regions, he also possessed eighty thousand cities. That king had twenty thousand consorts and approximately ten thousand ministers. That king, possessing excellent color, whose glory and power were incomparably great, and who was endowed with wealth, happiness, good harvests, and a large and exceedingly numerous population, thought to himself: 'I have benefited all beings with jewels and enjoyments, but I have not benefited them with the true Dharma. These will become my faults. I must seek where the true Dharma exists and thereby liberate all.' Having thought this, he proclaimed: 'In this Jambudvipa, whoever possesses the true Dharma, if they show it to me, I will give them whatever they desire without contradicting their wishes.' Although he proclaimed this, no one was able to show it. At that time, the king was distressed and troubled by sorrow, becoming unhappy. One named 'Resting One,' having heard this, in order to awaken him, transformed himself into a yaksha. That yaksha's color was very blue, black, his eyes were as red as blood, his teeth protruded upwards, his hair stood on end, flames blazed from his mouth, and he arrived at the palace gate, saying: 'Whoever wishes to hear the Dharma, listen to me!' Having heard him speak thus, the king was very pleased and welcomed the yaksha, bowed with his head, placed him on a high seat, and gathered ministers and many attendants, surrounding him so that they might hear the Dharma. At that time, the yaksha said to the king: 'O King, it is very difficult to hear the Dharma. If you wish to hear the Dharma, this alone is not enough.' After saying this, The king folded his palms and said to him: 'Whatever you desire, I will give you without contradiction.' Then, that yaksha said to the king: 'O King, whichever of your consorts and sons you cherish most, if you allow me to eat them, I will bestow the true Dharma upon you.' At that time, that great king offered the most cherished of his consorts and the best of his sons to the yaksha, and the yaksha, with many attendants,
