One should be disgusted. With those twenty aspects, the mind becomes extremely disgusted, extremely fearful, and extremely restrained. Then, with another twenty aspects, the mind quickly and swiftly abides properly. That is, when the mind contemplates the characteristics of the mind, the mind quickly and swiftly abides properly. That is, the mind is unsurpassed, or the mind is one-pointed, or the characteristic of samadhi, or the characteristic of abiding in samadhi, or the characteristic of arising from samadhi, or the characteristic of calm abiding, or the characteristic of complete apprehension, or the characteristic of equanimity, or abandoning what is not an object of practice, or respecting the object of practice, or summarizing, or specifying, or increasing extreme disgust, or relying on the lama, or contemplating the proper practice, the mind quickly and swiftly abides properly. That is, the mind quickly and swiftly abides properly when meditating on mindfulness of breathing in and out. That is, the mind quickly and swiftly abides properly when meditating on the mindfulnesses. Venerable ones, the obstacles to the nature of the noble disciple who thus properly contemplates should be known as eleven, namely: repeatedly gathering in assemblies, being greedy for food, delighting in activities, delighting in speech, delighting in noisy talk, delighting in noise, self-grasping, excitement, carelessness, and not abiding in a place. Venerable ones, those who have not destroyed the obstacles should train in ten skills in order to properly destroy them, namely: being skilled in samadhi, being skilled in abiding in samadhi, being skilled in arising from samadhi, being skilled in complete apprehension, being skilled in equanimity, being skilled in the sense fields, being skilled in means, and being skilled in realization. Venerable ones, when the noble disciple is thus skilled in realization, thirteen objects of supreme joy arise, namely, when a faithful person contemplates the Buddha, the Dharma, the Sangha, one's own discipline, another's discipline, one's own objects of giving, one's own realization, or another's realization, supreme joy arises. This is the object of supreme joy for a faithful person. Blessed One, that is my suffering.

This arising of great joy, saying, "It eliminates many evil dharmas," is the object of great joy for the faithful. O Bhagavan, this arising of great joy, saying, "It accomplishes many dharmas of happiness for me," is the object of great joy for the faithful. O Bhagavan, this arising of great joy, saying, "It eliminates my sins and many non-virtuous dharmas," is the object of great joy for the faithful. O Bhagavan, this arising of great joy, saying, "It accomplishes many virtuous dharmas for me," is the object of great joy for the faithful. O fortunate ones, if one relies on the four dharmas of the noble hearer, then the cultivation of the five dharmas will be completely perfected, namely: aspiration, diligence, solitude, and non-retrogression. What are the five dharmas that will be completely perfected through cultivation? They are: great joy, joy, extreme pliancy, happiness, and samadhi. O fortunate ones, if those five dharmas are all accumulated and closely accumulated, then the eight darts will cease to exist, namely: the dart of desire, the dart of hatred, the dart of delusion, the dart of pride, the dart of craving, the dart of views, and the dart of doubt and uncertainty. If those eight darts cease to exist, then one will attain the ten dharmas of the non-learner, namely: the non-learner's right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, right samadhi, right liberation, and right knowledge. If those ten dharmas of the non-learner are born, attained, and possessed, then one will realize the noble one who has abandoned the five limbs, possesses the six limbs, guards the one, possesses the four reliances, eliminates the individual truths, abandons elimination, and is without the defilement of universal conceptualization. The Dharma category called "The Extensive Meaning of the Noble One."
