The Chapter Called 'Arya Acvavighusana' The Chapter Called 'Arya Acvavighusana' In Indian language: Arya Acvavighusana nama dharma paryaya. In Tibetan language: The chapter called 'The Holy Increase'. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus I have heard, at one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, in the Garden of Anathapindika. Then, the venerable Shariputra said to the monks: Venerable ones, I will teach you the Dharma that is good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end, with good meaning and good words, unmixed, completely perfect, completely pure, and completely cleansed, which is the teaching of pure conduct, namely, the chapter called 'The Increase'. Listen well and keep it in mind, and I will explain it. What is the chapter of the Dharma of Increase? Venerable ones, these twelve freedoms and perfections are the causes for attaining the holy Dharma, namely: one's own prosperity, the prosperity of others, human existence, being born in the central land, having complete faculties, not abandoning the limits of karma, having faith in the place, the Buddhas appearing, the holy Dharma being taught, the Dharma being taught abiding, those abiding following, and having compassion for others individually. Thus, venerable ones, these twelve freedoms and perfections are the causes for attaining the holy Dharma. Venerable ones, a speaking monk should speak to others in twenty ways, namely: timely, respectfully, appropriately, opportunely, accordingly, orderly, desirably, pleasingly, joyfully, non-defamingly, reasonably, correspondingly, unconfusedly, with a truthful mind, beneficially, with a beneficial mind, with a compassionate mind, not relying on gain and respect, and verses. When speaking these words, one should not praise oneself, nor should one slander others, but should speak the Dharma. Venerable ones, those who wish to listen to the Dharma should listen in sixteen ways, namely: listening to the Dharma at the proper time.
