The Great Sutra, the Great Emptiness. The Great Sutra, the Great Emptiness. Translated, edited, and finalized by the Indian Abbot Jina Mitra, Prajna Varma, and the great translator-monk Yeshe De, among others. In Sanskrit: Mahashunyata Nama Mahasutram (梵文天城体:महाशून्यता नाम महासूत्रं,梵文罗马拟音:mahāśūnyatā nāma mahāsūtram,Meaning: The Great Emptiness, called the Great Sutra). In Tibetan: The Great Sutra, the Great Emptiness. Homage to the Three Jewels! Thus I have heard, at one time, the Bhagavan was dwelling in the place of Serkya, in the grove of the acacia tree. Then, in the morning, the Bhagavan put on his undergarment and Dharma robes, and taking his bowl, entered the place of Serkya for alms. Having taken alms in the place of Serkya, he performed the act of eating, and having abandoned the food taken after the meal, he put down his bowl and Dharma robes, washed his feet, and went to the Shakya Dusde Temple. At that time, many monks had spread many seats without cover in the Shakya Dusde Temple. Then, the Bhagavan washed his feet outside the temple and entered the temple for the sake of entering into meditation. Then, the Bhagavan arose from meditation and went to the Shakya Tagpa (Back Mountain) Temple. At that time, the venerable Ananda, together with many monks, had gathered in the Shakya Tagpa Mountain Temple for the work of Dharma robes. The venerable Ananda saw the Bhagavan from afar. Having seen him, he also rose from his seat, prepared a seat for the Bhagavan, and said this: Bhagavan, please come here! Bhagavan, you have come well! Bhagavan, please sit on this prepared seat! The Bhagavan sat on the seat and said to the venerable Ananda: Ananda, many monks have spread many seats without cover in the Shakya Dusde Temple. He reported: Bhagavan, it is time to bestow the Dharma robes! Sugata, it is time to bestow the Dharma robes! He said: Ananda, the Bhikshuni

Not delighting in idle talk, not following after diligently delighting in idle talk, not delighting in assemblies, not delighting in all assemblies, not following after diligently delighting in all assemblies, and dwelling alone, apart from assemblies, in this way, for a while, the mind that is in harmony with the times and protected is liberated, or not in harmony with the times and not declining, having realized and cultivated it with the body, that is what exists. Ananda, I do not truly see any form from which sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and agitation do not arise from the change and alteration of that form which I always delight in and rejoice in. Ananda, therefore, my dwelling is like this: in all respects, having completely transcended the perception of form, having realized emptiness outwardly with the body and cultivated it, this is also subsequently realized and thoroughly realized. When I dwell in this dwelling, great joy arises, and with that great joy, I truly experience all of the body, and abide many times with mindfulness and awareness. When I dwell in this dwelling, joy, great pliancy, happiness, and samadhi arise, and with that samadhi, I truly experience all of the body, and abide many times with mindfulness and awareness. When I dwell in this dwelling, monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen come near, and with a mind that is focused, inclined, and immersed in them, I say to them: in order to be able to strive, speak to each other with joyful words, say come, and also speak words of Dharma. Ananda, therefore, if a monk also wishes: alas, I should realize and cultivate dwelling in outward emptiness with the body. Ananda, that monk should place his mind inwardly, truly place it, gather it and place it, closely place it, tame it, pacify it, closely pacify it, make it one stream, and enter into samadhi. Ananda, O
