《The Sutra of the Noble Bodhisattva Maitreya's Birth in the Tushita Heaven》 《The Sutra of the Noble Bodhisattva Maitreya's Birth in the Tushita Heaven》 In Chinese: ཀྭན་ཇི་ལིའུ་ཕུ་ས་ཞང་ཤྱན་ཏེའུ་ཤིས་ཐྱན་ཀྱི་ན། In Tibetan: The Sutra of the Noble Bodhisattva Maitreya's Birth in the Tushita Heaven. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard. At one time, the Bhagavan was in the Jeta Grove of the Prince Jeta in the country of Shravasti, in the Garden of Anathapindika. He was dwelling together with a great community of monks and a great multitude of Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas. Then, in the first watch of the night, the Bhagavan emitted rays of light from his body, like the color of gold, and circumambulated the Jeta Grove seven times. The light touched householder Sudatta and others, and the light, like the color of gold, spread like a cloud in the sky, and in all places in the country of Shravasti, it rained down flowers like the color of gold. From within the golden light, all the immeasurable hundreds of thousands of emanated Tathagatas unanimously proclaimed the meaning of the first Buddha who dispelled doubt and increased faith in this fortunate eon, up to the last Buddha, Light Maker, attaining enlightenment. After thus proclaiming, the venerable Ajnata-Kaundinya arose from samadhi, together with two hundred and fifty attendants. The venerable Mahakashyapa, together with two hundred and fifty attendants. From the navel, a thousand rays of light emanated. Each ray had a thousand colors. From within each color, countless emanated Tathagatas appeared. All those Tathagatas spoke in unison, proclaiming the profound Dharanis that purify all the Dharma of all the great Bodhisattvas, namely, the Dharani called Ananta-mudra (藏文：ཨ་ནན་ཏ་མུ་དྲ་，梵文天城体：अनन्तमुद्रा，梵文罗马拟音：anantamudrā，汉语字面意思：Infinite Seal), the Dharani called Emptiness Wisdom (藏文：སྟོང་པ་ཉིད་ཀྱི་ཡེ་ཤེས་，梵文天城体：शून्यताज्ञान，梵文罗马拟音：shunyatajnana，汉语字面意思：Emptiness Wisdom), the Dharani called Unobstructed Entity (藏文：སྒྲིབ་པ་མེད་པའི་དངོས་པོ་，梵文天城体：अप्रतिहतवस्तु，梵文罗马拟音：apratihatavastu，汉语字面意思：Unobstructed Object), and the Dharani called Great Liberation Without Characteristics (藏文：མཚན་མ་མེད་པར་རྣམ་པར་གྲོལ་བ་ཆེན་པོ་，梵文天城体：अनिमित्तविमोक्षमहा，梵文罗马拟音：animittavimokshamaha，汉语字面意思：Great Liberation Without Signs), and so forth. With a single sound, they opened the door to hundreds of thousands of millions of Dharanis. As soon as the door to the Dharanis was opened, from within the assembled retinue, the Bodhisattva named Maitreya, upon hearing the words of the Bhagavan, immediately obtained the door to hundreds of thousands of millions of Dharanis. He then rose from his seat, adjusted his robes, folded his palms, and stood before the Bhagavan. Then, the venerable Upali rose from his seat and prostrated with his face and head. He said to the Bhagavan: "Bhagavan, Bhagavan, you previously said in all the Dharma of the Treasury that Maitreya would become a Buddha in the future. However, Maitreya has not separated from the body of an ordinary being, and his defilements have not been exhausted. Even if Maitreya were to renounce here, he would not meditate on Samadhi, nor would he abandon his afflictions. If you, Bhagavan, have declared that he will definitely become a Buddha, then after Maitreya passes away, in which realm will he take rebirth?" Then, the Bhagavan said to Upali: "Upali, listen attentively! All the Tathagatas know that within this retinue, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya will be prophesied to awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Twelve years from this time, after passing away, he will definitely take rebirth in the Tushita heaven. Then, above the Tushita heaven, there are five hundred billion nayutas of sons of the gods. Each son of the gods practices the profound perfection of generosity, for the purpose of making offerings to the Bodhisattva who is bound by one lifetime.
