Having eaten now, it felt wonderful. Then, the Blessed One spoke to the venerable Shariputra, saying: Shariputra, do not speak in that way. Why is that? Shariputra, those hundred monks, if they were to touch the Great Howling Hell for just a moment, they would be born with the same fortune as the gods of Tushita. Shariputra, if those monks had not heard this Dharma discourse, they would undoubtedly go to hell. If their karma were exhausted and they were to be reborn as humans, because they relied on this Dharma discourse, they would experience only a little of the karma that would have caused them to experience hell for an eon. Shariputra, therefore, those hundred monks will become arhats, with defilements exhausted, in the first gathering of the Thus-Gone-One Maitreya's disciples. Shariputra, therefore, hearing this Dharma discourse with doubt is superior, but not entering the four dhyanas, nor the four immeasurables, nor meditating on the four formless absorptions. Why is that? Because without hearing such a Dharma discourse, one is not completely liberated from samsara, not completely liberated from birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and turmoil, it is said. Then, the venerable Shariputra said to Manjushri, who had become a youth: Manjushri, it is wonderful that you have so well explained this Dharma discourse for the purpose of completely maturing sentient beings. Manjushri said: Venerable Shariputra, suchness is not diminished, nor increased. The realm of Dharma is not diminished, nor increased. The realm of sentient beings is not diminished, nor increased. It is not completely defiled, nor completely purified. Why is that? Because, like this, they are not existent, nor are they objects, they are merely designations, so they are nothing, not done by anything, nor belonging to anything, nor do they abide in anything, there is no abiding. Venerable Shariputra, whatever is like this, unceasing, that

Is enlightenment. What is enlightenment, is liberation. What is liberation, is non-conceptualization. What is non-conceptualization, is non-action and immutability. What is non-action and immutability, is complete nirvana. Then, the Blessed One said to the Venerable Shariputra: Shariputra, what Manjushri, the youthful one, has shown is just as it is. Suchness is neither decreasing nor increasing. The realm of Dharma is neither decreasing nor increasing. The realm of sentient beings is neither decreasing nor increasing. It is neither completely afflicted nor completely purified. Why is that? Like this, those are not existent and have no object, they are merely nominal, nothing at all. Not by anything, nor does it abide in anything, there is no abiding. Then, the Blessed One at that time spoke these verses: The past ones and the future, The present arising dharmas are spoken, Not by meaning, only nominal, One and diverse are not characteristics. Whatever is conceived as having no characteristics, Those themselves become characteristics, In the absence of characteristics, there is no conception, Conception itself is not a characteristic. Whatever is conceived of the unconditioned, And whatever is conceived of nirvana, Both are the deeds of Mara, So the wise ones have said. The aggregates, sense bases, and realms, Those are spoken of by names, Whatever are names and sense bases, Those two are of one characteristic. Whatever is conceived as proper, That itself is not proper, The wise do not conceive even a little, Like emptiness, it is the field of activity. Those who conceive are agitated, Those without conception are not agitated, Conceptions change, Those without conception attain nirvana. Whoever knows this nature, That is called having wisdom, Therefore, the outflows are attained, That is non-conceptual wisdom. Wisdom speaks of wisdom, Those who speak of wisdom also accumulate, Whoever can endure this wisdom, That is called having wisdom. Whoever fills these three thousand worlds with jewels, And gives them away, compared to whoever endures such a sacred Dharma, that is the supreme endurance. In countless billions of kalpas, Giving, discipline, patience, and

Through diligence, meditation, and diligent practice, this sutra is unparalleled. This Dharma and this vehicle are the words of the perfectly enlightened Buddha. By relying on this sutra, all will become Thus-Gone Ones. When this Dharma discourse was taught, hundreds of millions of beings, regarding all Dharmas, were purified, free from the dust of the Dharma eye and without defilement. Five hundred monks, without attachment, had their minds completely liberated from all outflows. Eighty thousand sons of gods who dwell in the realm of form generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and all of them will attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment in a kalpa like a star. All of them will also be named in accordance with the name of the Thus-Gone One, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, Flower, as the Blessed One prophesied. After the Blessed One had spoken thus, Mañjuśrī, the youthful one, and the venerable Śāriputra, and the world with gods, humans, asuras, and gandharvas rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. The Great Vehicle Sutra entitled "The Residence of the Holy Mañjuśrī" is complete. Translated, revised, and finalized by the Indian Abbot Surendrabodhi and the translator-monk Yeshede of Zhuchen. Great Vehicle Sutra entitled "The Residence of the Holy Mañjuśrī."
