All sentient beings, gathered as sentient beings, all of them possess the accumulation of merit of Indra. The accumulation of merit of Indra of all those sentient beings, those accumulations of merit combined, belong to one Brahma. Son of Kasyapa, in worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, all sentient beings, gathered as sentient beings, all of them possess the accumulation of merit of Brahma. The accumulation of merit of Brahma of all those sentient beings, those accumulations of merit combined together, belong to one Hearer. Son of Kasyapa, in worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, all sentient beings, gathered as sentient beings, all of them possess the accumulation of merit of Hearers. The accumulation of merit of Hearers of all those sentient beings, those accumulations of merit combined together, belong to one Pratyekabuddha. Son of Kasyapa, in worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, all sentient beings, gathered as sentient beings, all of them possess the accumulation of merit of Pratyekabuddhas. The accumulations of merit of all those Hearers and Pratyekabuddhas, those accumulations of merit completely combined, a Bodhisattva possessing such an accumulation of merit will attain what is called the "Samadhi of Gathering All Merit." Son of Kasyapa, in worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, all sentient beings, gathered as sentient beings, all of them will attain this Samadhi of Gathering All Merit. The accumulations of merit of all those sentient beings, those accumulations of merit combined together, if one must give an example, will accomplish one uninterrupted offering. Son of Kasyapa, such an offering and the accumulations of merit of the fruits of offering, if increased a hundredfold, will result in the body of a Tathagata.

When one mark of a great being manifestly comes to pass, therefore, that Thus-Gone One is called the one possessed of the marks of a hundred merits. By such means, the body of the Thus-Gone One, up to the thirty-two marks of a great being, manifestly comes to pass. Those are such that all sentient beings cannot conceive of them. Therefore, that Thus-Gone One is called the one possessed of the marks of inconceivable merit. When this teaching of the marks of a hundred merits was spoken, this trichiliocosm quaked in six ways, and a great light also pervaded it. Hundreds of thousands of musical instruments also resounded without being struck. A great rain of flowers also manifestly fell. The world with the gods was also amazed, and uttering sounds of "ca co" and "ga zha," they folded their palms and prostrated to the Thus-Gone One, and spoke these words: "Whatever sentient beings generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, complete awakening, those have well obtained the attainment. Those who will become possessed of such marks of a hundred merits will overcome all those such as Indra, Brahma, and the protectors of the world, and all the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. This jewel-like samadhi, whatever sentient beings hear in their ears, or having heard it, cultivate it without error, those have also well obtained the attainment. Whatever places practice this samadhi, those are also endowed with good fortune. Whatever sons or daughters of good family extensively and correctly teach this jewel-like samadhi, know that those are blessed by the Thus-Gone One. Wherever this category of the Dharma of samadhi is heard, in that world, even if it is filled with worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, it can also be poured into it, and they will go for the sake of hearing this samadhi." The Bhagavan said, "Sons of good family, it is thus, just as you say. Whatever sons or daughters of good family do not listen to this samadhi, do not hold it, do not recite it, do not fully understand it, and do not extensively and correctly [teach it] to others,

Those who do not proclaim it should be known as blessed by demons. Son of lineage, those Bodhisattvas who do not extensively and truthfully proclaim this samadhi that gathers all merits to others, I do not say that they are learned. Then, those sons of gods and bodhisattvas unanimously requested the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, please bless this category of Dharma of the samadhi that gathers all merits, so that it may be practiced and propagated in later times. Then, at that time, the Blessed One emitted light from the white hair between his eyebrows. That light illuminated the boundless and limitless world. From that light, a voice also arose, saying: The Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One has blessed this category of Dharma. Then, the Blessed One said to the Venerable Ananda: Ananda, the Tathagata will soon enter into Nirvana in three months. Ananda, I entrust this category of Dharma to you for the sake of upholding it and extensively and truthfully proclaiming it to others. Ananda, whichever sentient beings, whoever they may be, who uphold this category of Dharma, the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, will not enter into Nirvana. The Dharma will also not disappear. Why is that? Ananda, if one practices this category of Dharma, then that is seeing the Buddha, and speaking and proclaiming it to others, that is upholding the true Dharma. Then, the Venerable Ananda wept and wiped away his tears, and requested the Blessed One, saying: For the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, for compassion for the world, for the vast assembly of beings, for the benefit and happiness of gods and humans, please, Blessed One, Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, remain for a kalpa or more than a kalpa. The Blessed One said: Ananda, do not grieve, do not lament.
