Chapter Thirty-Seven: The Chapter on Clearly Showing the Aggregate of Ethical Conduct Chapter Thirty-Seven: The Chapter on Clearly Showing the Aggregate of Ethical Conduct Then the Blessed One spoke to Youthful Moon Radiance, "Young man, therefore, if a bodhisattva, a great being, wishes to awaken to unsurpassable, perfectly complete enlightenment in comfort, then, young man, that bodhisattva, great being, should listen to this samadhi of the equality of the nature of all phenomena, which is free from elaboration. It should be grasped. It should be fully understood. It should be held. It should be read. It should be thoroughly recited. It should be memorized and recited. It should be meditated on extensively with non-afflicted meditation. And it should also be extensively and correctly shown to others. And one should also be well-established in the aggregate of ethical conduct." Then again, at that time, the Blessed One spoke these verses: A bodhisattva abiding in the assembly of ethical conduct, Whatever practice of benefiting oneself is practiced, Having quickly gone to the buddha-field of Manifest Joy, Through that patience, one becomes the king of dharma. Therefore, without malice and in harmony with all, One should always make all agreeable. Having seen countless buddhas of dense glory, Having touched enlightenment, one becomes the lord of dharma. Therefore, having heard this supreme benefit, Seeing a monk endowed with supreme ethical conduct, The wise should always attend to him without wavering. Before long, one will obtain this samadhi. If treasures were immeasurable and without limit, Filled with the seven kinds of jewels and gems, Likewise, fields as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, Filled with jewels and precious stones, A bodhisattva, devoted to giving, Gives these gifts each and every day and night. Likewise, kalpas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, Giving continuously without ceasing, Compared to that, a bodhisattva who, Having heard this samadhi, holds the supreme treasury of the Sugata, The accumulation of merit that he has grasped, All those gifts are not equal to a fraction of it. Whoever agrees to follow and has faith, Holding this supreme, dust-free samadhi, This is an incomparable, supreme accumulation of merit. That treasury of wisdom is an immeasurable source.

If one holds this peaceful, dust-free Samadhi, that Bodhisattva becomes a great treasure. Like a great ocean, it is a treasury of learning, and the merit of that one will never be limited. The supreme qualities of the Dharma are inconceivable, hence Bodhisattvas are said to be extremely vast. Whoever teaches this Samadhi, that one will attain enlightenment without any doubt. One who is endowed with the supreme accumulation of merit, whose immeasurable qualities are inconceivable, the guide of the world, the Buddha, except for the self-born great compassion, beneath that, any sentient being, this great emptiness, with the accumulation of merit, and incomparable, inconceivable wisdom, to be equal to that, will never be possible. Having heard this Samadhi, holding it, reciting it, and fully understanding it, unless one seeks the unequaled enlightenment of the Buddha, that one's wisdom will become unequaled. By holding and reciting this Samadhi, the accumulation of merit that is gathered, if, like a youth, that Dharma had form, then even these many world realms would not be able to contain it. Youth, therefore, any Bodhisattva who wishes to make offerings to the Tathagatas of the past and future and all the Buddhas, should hold and recite this Samadhi. This is the Tathagata's enlightenment, youth, have faith in my words, the Tathagata does not speak false words, such a sentient being does not lie. In countless hundreds of thousands of eons of the past, diligently practicing this supreme practice of enlightenment, in order to seek this Samadhi, I have trained in self-view here. Therefore, listen to this treasury of Dharma, from this will arise hundreds of thousands of kotis of Sutras. This is an immeasurable, vast accumulation of merit, by this one will quickly attain the wisdom of the Buddha. Whoever teaches, those fearless wise ones, this is the supreme Sutra of all Sutras, the source of inconceivable virtue, but the end of those Dharmas can never be found. Even if one could cut and destroy the great thousand worlds, and be able to count the collections of dust, still one could not count the immeasurable, countless hundreds of thousands of Sutras, those constantly unceasing. With faith in the supreme enlightenment of the Buddha, hold this treasury of Dharma completely.
