In order to thoroughly seek this supreme Bodhi, the guide, you have practiced diligently for kalpas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, and even more. For what reason did you show this smile, please reveal it. In order to thoroughly seek this supreme wisdom, the teacher completely gave up his hands and feet, his sons, consorts, relatives, and possessions without hesitation. What is the cause of the smile shown by the Thubpa (Buddha)? Horses, cattle, vehicles, and walking tools, servants, jewels, gold, silver, and pearls, you have given up. While practicing the supreme conduct, you did not give up your life. There were no jewels or riches that you did not give. Among the three realms, wisdom is the most supreme. You thoroughly understand the actions of all sentient beings, and are skilled and knowledgeable in mind, realms, and inclinations. For what reason did you show this smile? Who is offering to the chief of men? For what purpose does it become vast and boundless? Who is thoroughly upholding this conduct? For what purpose did the Thubpa (Buddha) show this smile? The earth also shook violently in six ways. Billions of lotuses, with billions of petals. Golden lotuses, exceedingly bright, beautiful and pleasing, emerged from the earth. The Bodhisattva with great miraculous power is the heart-son of the Victorious One. There are also many speakers of Dharma here, and for them, I ask the teacher. Drums, conches, and great cymbals make loud sounds, countless cymbals are struck. These sounds are present in the sky. The Sugata's (Buddha's) voice is inconceivable. Cranes, swans, Kalavinka birds, and cuckoos, and the sounds of many assembled birds, even though they produce extremely pleasant melodies, cannot match the rain of the Buddha's voice. Who has cultivated generosity, discipline, and perfect restraint in many past kalpas? Who has thoroughly offered to the chief of men? For whom did you show this smile? Who, having generated the highest reverence, has previously asked the chief of the two-legged (Buddha) how to attain Buddhahood? For whom did you show this smile? How many past Tathagatas possessed the ten powers, and the Sugatas who have appeared now and will appear in the future, and all the chiefs of men
