I see all things as like an illusion, like a magic trick, like a dream, like a mirage, like an echo. All dharmas are unborn and unceasing, unbound and liberated, neither darkness nor light. Whoever sees and hears this profound dharma in this way sees the various thoughts and inclinations of sentient beings filling the three realms in a way that does not see them. Then the Bhagavan explained the meaning in detail, and at that time spoke these verses: Like the light of the sun and moon, Shines equally on virtuous and sinful people, Shining equally, There is no birth, death, increase or decrease in it. The light of the Tathagata's wisdom, Is equal like the sun and moon, Without increase or decrease, Taming all sentient beings. Like a potter's clay pot, Made from the same clay, From which the vessels are made, Containing sugar cane, milk, butter and water. Or some contain impure things, Or some become vessels for yogurt. The potter takes one lump of clay, And makes it into vessels. Just as the things contained are different, So the vessels are distinguished separately. Likewise, sentient beings have no distinction, But because of different inclinations, the Tathagata Though widely teaches various vehicles, But that is the vehicle of the Buddha. Because they do not know the wheel of samsara, They also do not know nirvana. All dharmas have abandoned self-nature, Those who understand emptiness, They will know The true enlightenment of the Buddha Bhagavan. If wisdom is mediocre, It is also called a Pratyekabuddha. Those who know emptiness and tame, Are established as Shravakas. Those who understand all dharmas, Are the perfectly enlightened Buddhas. Like a blind man who does not see, The sun, moon, planets and stars, Because he does not see, he says: All forms do not exist. The great doctor for the blind, Generating great compassion, Goes to the snowy mountains, Ascending, descending, and going straight. Possessing color, taste, and all qualities, As well as the other four elements, Finds all kinds of medicines from the mountain, Then mixes them together. Some medicines are used for washing, Some for applying, and some are not. Also applying acupuncture to the limbs, Administering to the blind.

Having attained the sun and moon, and the stars and planets. Because of ignorance, he knows what was said before, he thinks it is so. Likewise, when sentient beings are ignorant, they wander here like the blind. Because they do not know the wheel of dependent arising, they become the path of the river of suffering. Likewise, the ignorant and deluded, in this world, are the best of all. Great physician, the Tathagata, the embodiment of compassion, arose here, the guide, skilled in means, therefore, he taught the sacred Dharma, the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. He teaches those who have entered the sacred vehicle, the guide also for those of middling wisdom, the most excellent teaching for those of intermediate level. Fearing samsara, also enlightenment, elsewhere also the most excellent teaching. Those who arise from the three realms, the Shravakas know this as follows, the stainless, peaceful Nirvana, I think I have attained it. If all dharmas are comprehended, then one attains the undying Nirvana. The great sages, having generated great compassion for him, said to him, "You fool, do not think of yourself as wise. When you are dwelling inside a house, whatever is outside, you of little wisdom do not know. Whoever dwells inside, the done and undone, the knowable things outside, since you still do not know, how can you of little wisdom know? Even the sounds that arise within about five cubits, you cannot hear them, what need is there to say about what is farther away? Those who have ill will towards you, and likewise others who are loving, you cannot know them either, why do you have pride? Even if you go only a shout away, you cannot go without losing your steps. Whatever happened in your mother's womb, you forget them immediately. Whoever has these five superknowledges, he is called all-knowing here. You are ignorant and know nothing, I say that I know everything. If you want to be all-knowing, then accomplish manifest knowledge in this way. If you accomplish that manifest knowledge, dwell in solitude and the pure Dharma, you should contemplate it, and by that you will attain manifest knowledge. He took the meaning and went to a solitary place, and contemplated very attentively. Having attained the five manifest knowledges, he soon possessed qualities. Likewise, all the Shravakas,

Thinking they have attained Nirvana, Among those things explained by the Tathagatas, Those who have not attained Nirvana rest. Whoever speaks of this principle, This is the method of the Buddhas. Except for the all-knowing one, Practice this non-Nirvana practice. The boundless wisdom of the three times, The six perfections, the roots of virtue, Emptiness and the absence of characteristics, Completely abandoning all aspirations, The Bodhicitta and whatever else, Are the dharmas that lead to Nirvana. The four abodes of Brahma, And whatever is spoken in the collections, For the sake of taming sentient beings, The supreme sage well proclaims. The nature of dreams and illusions, And the heartless mass of water and trees, And also like an echo in a mountain valley, Whoever well knows all dharmas. The three realms, without remainder, The one who also knows their nature, Without bondage and without liberation, Does not know Nirvana's extinction. All dharmas are empty and equal, Without difference, without otherness. They do not understand those things, If no dharma is seen at all, The Dharmakaya, without remainder, Is seen by that great wisdom. There is no arising in the three vehicles, Here there is only one vehicle. All dharmas are equal, and everything is, Equal and peaceful, always equal. Having thus known, the peaceful one, Knows the deathless Nirvana. The fifth chapter, called "Medicinal Herbs," from the Sutra of the White Lotus of the Sublime Dharma, is complete.
