"Bhagavan, that householder is able to protect that son and bring him to full maturity. Having tamed his mind, and made his mind vast, previously thinking of poverty, he felt fear and shame, and having been reproached, when the time came for him to die, he summoned that poor man, gathered with many relatives, and in front of the king, ministers, townspeople, and villagers, he openly proclaimed: 'Listen! This is my beloved son, born of me, wandering from the city called this for fifty years, his name is called this. My name is called this, and I came here from that city to find him. This is my son, I am his father, and all my actions and enjoyments are given to this person. Let him know all the wealth in my house.' Bhagavan, then that poor man, hearing such words, felt amazed and rare, thinking: 'I will immediately obtain shells, gold, wealth, grain, storehouses, and many granaries.' Bhagavan, similarly, we are like the sons of the Tathagata, and the Tathagata says to us: 'You are my sons,' just like that householder. Bhagavan, we are tormented by three kinds of suffering. Which three? Namely, the suffering of suffering, the suffering of change, and pervasive suffering. In samsara, because of our inclination towards the inferior, we, the Bhagavan, regard many evil dharmas as like a pile of sweepings, and we apply our minds to them. We enter into them, striving and seeking, Bhagavan, we seek nirvana merely as if seeking the reward for an umbrella, Bhagavan, we are delighted to have attained nirvana, and therefore, having entered into these dharmas from the Tathagata, striving and seeking, we think that we have obtained much. The Tathagata knows that we are inclined towards the inferior. Therefore, the Bhagavan has abandoned us, like the wisdom of the Tathagata."

Without revealing or showing that you would become a treasury of wisdom. World Honored One, by your skillful means, you have arranged for us to share in the treasury of the Tathagata's wisdom. World Honored One, we have no expectation of this. Just as we have taken Nirvana from the Tathagata as the reward for a parasol, we consider that we have done much. World Honored One, for the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, based on the Tathagata's wisdom, we expound the vast Dharma, reveal and show the Tathagata's wisdom, and although we also closely show it, World Honored One, we have no expectation of this. Why is that? Because the Tathagata, by skillful means, thoroughly understands our intentions, but we do not understand or comprehend it. The World Honored One said to us in this way: "The sons of the World Honored One are genuine." The World Honored One remembers that we share in the portion of the Tathagata's wisdom. Why is that? Because we are the genuine sons of the Tathagata, but we are inclined towards the inferior. If the World Honored One sees the power of our intentions, the World Honored One will call us Bodhisattvas. The World Honored One allows us to do two actions, namely, to say in front of the Bodhisattvas that we are inclined towards the inferior, and to place them in the vast Bodhi of the Buddha. The World Honored One knows the power of our intentions, so he speaks in this way. World Honored One, in this way, we say this: we have no expectation, no seeking, no requesting, no searching, no thinking, no praying, but immediately, like these sons of the Tathagata, we have obtained the precious jewel of omniscience. Then, the Venerable Maha-Kasyapa spoke these verses at that time: Like this, immediately, today we, have heard the pleasing voice of the guide. Having heard the voice, we have obtained joy. We are amazed, it is truly wonderful. Precious and supreme treasures, never thought of.
