Then, the master took off his necklace and ornaments, took off his soft and gorgeous good clothes, and looked for dirty clothes. He came down from his dwelling, took a water jug in his left hand, swept his body with a broom, spoke from afar, went to the place where his son was, and said, 'Don't be idle, take the water jug and sweep the garbage.' Speaking to his son in this way, he also instructed, 'Hey friend, work here and don't go anywhere else, and I will increase your salary.' What do you need? Is it money for a pot? Or money for pills? Or money for rope? Or money for wood? Or money for salt? Or food? Or clothes? You can ask me for these without hesitation. O, young man, whatever things you need, I will give you all of them. Man, do not grieve, think of me as you would your own father. Why? Because I am old and you are young, and you have swept my piles of rubbish and done much work. O man, when you do this work, there is no deceit, no trickery, no cunning, no pride, no concealment. O young man, just as when other people do these works, they have those faults, I have not seen even one of those faults in you in any way. From this day forward, you are like my heart's son to me. Blessed One, thereafter, that householder named that poor man 'son.' That poor man also developed recognition towards that householder. Blessed One, in this way, that householder, being thirsty for a son, had that son sweep the piles of rubbish for twenty years. After twenty years had passed, that poor man no longer hesitated to go into that householder's bedroom. He lived and stayed in that very hut. Blessed One, then that householder felt that he was going to die, and seeing that the time of his death had come, he said to that poor man: O man, come here. My shells, gold, wealth, grain, storehouses, and granaries are very numerous, and since I am very ill, you should know to whom to give them, from whom to take them, and where to hide them. Why? Just as I have become the owner of this wealth, so should you, and do not waste even a little of mine. Blessed One, then that poor man, in this way, saw that that householder's shells, gold, wealth, grain, storehouses, and granaries were very numerous, but he himself had no expectation of them, and he did not even ask for a little of the value of a handful of flour, but lived and stayed in that thatched hut, thinking the thoughts of a poor man.
