O Blessed One, now, having heard such previously unheard words of the Thus-Gone One, we have obtained great benefit. O Blessed One, we have obtained a great treasure. O Blessed One, we have obtained an immeasurable great treasure. O Blessed One, we have obtained such a great treasure without asking, without seeking, without thinking, without expecting. O Blessed One, we feel proud. The Sugata feels proud. O Blessed One, for example, a person has left his father in this way. After leaving, he went to a certain place. Oh, that father with wealth, conch shells, storehouses, and many granaries lived in that city. He always constantly remembered the son who had been lost for fifty years. Although he remembered, he did not speak to anyone, only suffering alone in his heart. He thought to himself: I am old and weak, and if I die, I have so many conch shells, gold, wealth, grain, storehouses, and granaries, but I have no son. If I die without using these things, wouldn't it be wasted? Therefore, he remembered that son and thought: Alas, if my son could use this wealth, I would be without sorrow. World-Honored One, then that poor man searched for scraps and leftovers, and eventually arrived at the place of that man with many conch shells, gold, wealth, grain, storehouses, and granaries. World-Honored One, then that poor man's father was at the gate of his mansion, surrounded and watched by a large retinue of Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras. He was seated on a great lion throne with footstools, highly adorned with gold and silver, spending hundreds of millions of conch shells. He was being fanned with whisks, the ground was covered with luxurious silk, flowers were being scattered, and precious jewels were hung, enjoying great wealth and pleasure. World-Honored One, that poor man saw his father enjoying such splendor at the gate of his mansion, surrounded by many people, doing the work of a householder. Seeing this, he felt fear, dread, and displeasure, and his hair stood on end. He was very uneasy and thought to himself: If I suddenly meet the king or a great minister, I have nothing to do here, I should return to my poor place. There I can easily find food and clothing. I must not stay here too long. If I linger here even a little, or encounter some other trouble, it will not be good. World-Honored One, then that poor man's mind was filled with successive fears.

O Blessed One, then that man was tormented by longing for his son. At that very moment, instant, and brief time, he sent swift men, instructing them: 'Friends, quickly bring that man here now!' O Blessed One, then all those men ran swiftly and seized the poor man. O Blessed One, then at that time the poor man was frightened and terrified, unhappy, his hair standing on end, very uncomfortable, and he let out a loud cry of fear, shouting and saying: 'I have not done any harm to you!' Then those men forcibly led the poor man away as he shouted. Then the poor man, frightened and terrified, unhappy, his hair standing on end, very uncomfortable, thought to himself: 'Will they have me killed and do something wrong?' Thinking this, he fainted, fell to the ground, and became unconscious. His father was also nearby, and he said to those men: 'Do not bring that fellow here; sprinkle him with cold water!' He spoke those words and said nothing else. What was the reason for this? Because that householder knew that I possessed great power, and that this poor man was inclined to humility. He also knew that he was the householder's son. O Blessed One, then that householder, for the sake of expediency, did not tell anyone that this was my son. O Blessed One, then that householder said to another man: 'Hey, you, go and tell that poor man: Hey, you are free to go wherever you please!' That man said: 'As the gods command.'
