At that time, the demon's son named Boatman, having gained great faith and joy in the Blessed One, upon hearing the sound of the Blessed One entering into complete nirvana, became distressed and displeased, filled with unhappiness and great suffering and displeasure. He became dejected and weary, his hair standing on end, and quickly went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat to one side. Having sat to one side, the demon's son Boatman said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, I beseech you, for the sake of benefit, please do not enter into complete nirvana. Blessed One, please hold dear your compassion for the world, including the gods, and for the benefit and happiness of many beings, for compassion towards the world, and for the sake of the benefit, welfare, and happiness of gods and humans, please remain. Blessed One, please do not let the world so quickly become blind, without eyes, without a teacher, without a guide, without a friend, without a protector, without a refuge. Having thus entreated, the Blessed One said to the demon's son Boatman: Boatman, your father, the evil demon, requested of me, "Blessed One, please enter into complete nirvana, Well-gone One, please enter into complete nirvana, Blessed One, now is the time for you to enter into complete nirvana." I said to your father, the evil demon, "I shall enter into nirvana." Boatman, I have opened the opportunity for entering into complete nirvana to that evil demon. 祈请如是。世尊，我知悉那罪恶者于我非为成就与安乐。世尊，知悉欲使如是智慧之灯、智慧之大光明、智慧光明之大灯完全寂灭之罪恶者，乃是罪恶之念者，罪恶之行者，乃是连同天、人、非天之世界令生厌恶之仇敌。世尊，于连同天之世间，凡如是真实宣说“有情大罪恶已出现于世间”者，彼之宣说，世尊，我如是真实宣说彼乃是魔。世尊，凡如是真实宣说“已入于不利于我者，已入于不利于他者，已入于不利于众多人者”者，彼之宣说，世尊，我如是真实宣说彼乃是魔。连同天、连同魔、连同梵天之世界，对于连同沙门与婆罗门之世人，为损害与不利与痛苦，非为成就与安乐，为令堕落而入者，我如是说彼乃是世尊，我如是真实宣说彼乃是魔。与法相应之誓言与不与法相应之誓言，我已于世尊处现前听闻且现前受持。世尊，凡彼罪恶魔所立誓言，乃是不与法相应之誓言。世尊，您若依于此誓言且视为心要，世尊，为利于众多人，为安乐于众多人，为慈悯世间，为利益与安乐天与人等，祈请住世一劫。世尊，若长久住世，则彼乃是利于众多人，安乐于众多人，天与人等得安乐，为此，世尊，恳请您对连同天之世间怀有慈悯之心，不要迅速完全寂灭。如是祈请已，世尊对魔之子引导者如是说道：引导者，善哉！善哉！

Thus I beseech. O Blessed One, I know that evil one is not for my accomplishment and happiness. O Blessed One, knowing that the evil one who seeks to completely extinguish such a lamp of wisdom, a great light of wisdom, and a great lamp of light of wisdom, is one with evil thoughts, one with evil deeds, and an enemy who disgusts the world including gods, humans, and asuras. O Blessed One, in the world including the gods, whoever truly says, "A sentient being of great evil has appeared in the world," that saying, O Blessed One, I truly say that he is Mara. O Blessed One, whoever truly says, "He has entered into what is not beneficial to me, he has entered into what is not beneficial to others, he has entered into what is not beneficial to many people," that saying, O Blessed One, I truly say that he is Mara. The world including gods, including Mara, including Brahma, for the world of beings including ascetics and Brahmins, for harm and disadvantage and suffering, not for accomplishment and happiness, and for entering into downfall, I say that he is, O Blessed One, I truly say that he is Mara. A vow in accordance with the Dharma and a vow not in accordance with the Dharma, I have heard and received directly from the Blessed One. O Blessed One, whatever vow that evil Mara has made is a vow not in accordance with the Dharma. O Blessed One, if you rely on this vow and regard it as essential, O Blessed One, for the benefit of many people, for the happiness of many people, for compassion for the world, and for the benefit and happiness of gods and humans, please remain for an eon. O Blessed One, if you remain for a long time, then it will be for the benefit of many people, for the happiness of many people, and for the happiness of gods and humans. Therefore, O Blessed One, please hold compassion close to the world including the gods and do not quickly pass into complete extinction. Having made this request, the Blessed One said to the son of Mara, the guide, "Guide, well done! Well done!"

O captain, those who attend to and serve the king, the one who has been empowered from the crown of the head of the royal lineage, and spread benefit and happiness, and those who constantly and continuously engage in attending to and making offerings to the lands, towns, and regions of the one empowered from the crown of the head of the royal lineage, and to the youths and ministers, those captains obtain much wealth and great enjoyment from the one empowered from the crown of the head of the royal lineage, and that king of the royal lineage, in return, bestows great benefit, extending benefit to sons and wives, friends and relatives, and even to those related by marriage. O captain, similarly, if you offer such a root of virtue of joyful mind to the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, the unsurpassed King of Dharma, O captain, for the sake of attending to and serving the Tathagata with a joyful mind, I grant you encouragement. I grant you great enjoyment of vast roots of virtue. O captain, if you generate a root of virtue of faithful mind towards the Tathagata, I encourage you. O captain, know that with this root of virtue and faith and joy, after my Nirvana, in the future, there will be such a time and such a lifespan when I will become a Pratyekabuddha named Compassionate. O captain, after my passing away, when all the sacred Dharma has completely disappeared, know that there will be such a time and such a lifespan when the evil Mara will become extremely pleased, happy, and satisfied. From being extremely pleased and satisfied, he will transmigrate from the abode of Mara. Immediately after dying from the abode of Mara, he will obtain a body in the great hell of Avici, and there he will experience various kinds of Avici suffering. Why is that? O captain, it is because he rejoices in the absence of such a great lamp of wisdom, such a great light of wisdom. O captain, whoever kills me and harms me
