I shook the place of the earth demon. I proclaimed the lion's roar. I did the work of the Buddha. I completed the work of the holy being. I perfected the previous yidam. I blessed the form of the Dharma. I set the great Shravakas to work. In order to ensure that the future form of the Buddha is not interrupted, I have already prophesied to the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas. Ananda, apart from passing into Nirvana, I have nothing else to do. Then, the venerable Ananda, having heard such words of the Blessed One, felt pain and discomfort, was displeased, and pierced by the arrow of great sorrow, wept bitterly, shedding tears, and said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, please quickly pass into Nirvana, O Sugata, please quickly pass into Nirvana. The eye of the world will quickly disappear. The world will quickly become without a protector, without a refuge, and without a guide. Then, the Blessed One again said to the venerable Ananda: Ananda, enough, do not grieve! Do not lament! Whatever exists, arises, is compounded, and accumulated is of the nature of decay, how could it not decay? That is impossible. Ananda, did I not tell you from the beginning that whatever you like, love, and cherish will change, separate, disperse, and vanish? Ananda, you have served me with loving bodily actions, with benefit, happiness, non-duality, immeasurability, and non-opposition. Ananda, compared to serving gods, humans, asuras, and their retinues, as well as Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, for a kalpa or more, the fruit of serving the Tathagata for even a moment is much greater. Ananda, do not grieve! Do not lament! Ananda, your service to the Tathagata is of great significance, great fruit, great benefit, great scope, and like nectar.
