There are no troops or companions! The Bodhisattva said: Being without illness is like playing in a dream. The terror of disease is so unbearable. How can a wise person, seeing this situation, develop joy and attachment to play? Monks, then the Bodhisattva turned the best chariot again and returned to the city. Monks, in this way, the Bodhisattva at another time, with great adornment, entered the garden from the west gate of the city. He saw a dead person on the road, placed on a stretcher, covered with cloth, surrounded by relatives. Everyone was crying and shouting, wailing and lamenting, tearing their hair, scattering dirt on their heads, beating their chests, crying with grief, and following behind. After seeing this, the Bodhisattva knowingly asked the charioteer: Charioteer, who is this person placed on a stretcher, with people tearing their hair, scattering dirt on their heads, saying all sorts of things, beating their chests, and being carried away surrounded by people? The charioteer said: O god, this person has died in Jambudvīpa (Sanskrit, Jambudvīpa, the continent of Jambu, referring to the Earth we live on), and will never see his parents, siblings, and children again. Having abandoned property, houses, and friends, he has gone to another world, and will never see his relatives again. The Bodhisattva said: What is the use of a young person troubled by old age? What is the use of a healthy person troubled by various diseases? What is the use of a living wise person who cannot live long? What is the use of a wise person who is happy with old age? Even if there were no old age, no disease, and no death, clinging to the five aggregates is also great suffering! What need is there to mention that old age and death always accompany each other? Return well, and think well about the path to liberation! Monks, then the Bodhisattva turned the best chariot again and returned to the city. Monks, in this way, the Bodhisattva at another time, entered the garden from the north gate of the city. Due to the power of the Bodhisattva, those gods manifested a monk on the road.
