From the Great Precious Heap Dharma Category Hundred Thousand Verses, the Thirty-fifth Chapter, which is the Prophecy of the Inconceivable Buddha-field. Volume One. In Sanskrit: Arya Acintya Buddha Visaya Nirdesa Nama Mahayana Sutra. In Tibetan: The Noble Teaching on the Inconceivable Buddha-field, called the Great Vehicle Sutra. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Thus have I heard. At one time, the Blessed One was in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, in Anathapindika's Garden, together with a great community of monks, thirty-two thousand monks, and ten thousand Bodhisattvas. Also present were the sons of gods who dwell in desire and form, and the sons of gods of the Pure Abodes. Then, the Blessed One, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of attendants, sat facing forward and taught the Dharma. At that time, Manjushri, the youthful one, was also assembled in that very gathering and sat there. The son of the gods, Sri Bhadra, was also assembled in that very gathering and sat there. Then, the Blessed One spoke to Manjushri, the youthful one, saying: Manjushri, I urge you, begin to speak words that accord with the Dharma, and delight this assembly of gods and these Bodhisattvas. Manjushri replied: Blessed One, from what shall I begin to speak? The Blessed One said: Manjushri, begin to speak from the Buddha-field. He replied: Blessed One, what is the Buddha-field? It is not the object of the eye, not the object of form, not the object of the ear, not the object of sound, not the object of the nose, not the object of smell, not the object of the tongue, not the object of taste, not the object of the body, not the object of touch, not the object of mind, not the object of phenomena.

It is called a realm. World Honored One, the realm without distinction is the realm of the Buddha. World Honored One, if a son or daughter of good family wishes to comprehend the realm of the Buddha, they should comprehend the realm of the Buddha in a way that is not comprehending. World Honored One, what is the realm in which the Tathagata attained enlightenment? The Buddha said: Manjushri, because of seeing the equality, emptiness is the realm in which I attained enlightenment. Because of the equality of characteristics, the absence of characteristics is the realm. Because of the equality of the three realms, the absence of aspiration is the realm. Because of the equality of actions, the absence of manifest action is the realm. Because of the equality of conditioned things, the absence of birth, the absence of arising, and the absence of action are the realm. Asked, World Honored One, what is the realm of the unconditioned? The Buddha said: Manjushri, the absence of mind is the realm of the unconditioned. Asked, World Honored One, the absence of mind is the realm of the Buddha, because there is no speech there. Where there is no speech, there is no instruction. Where there is no instruction, there is no explicit expression. World Honored One, the realm without explicit expression is the realm of the Buddha. The Buddha said: Manjushri, where should the realm of the Buddha be sought? Asked, World Honored One, the realm of the Buddha should be sought entirely from the afflictions of all sentient beings. Why is that? World Honored One, for example, completely understanding the afflictions of all sentient beings is not the realm of all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, but completely understanding the afflictions of all sentient beings is the reason why it is the realm of the Buddha. The Buddha said: Manjushri, is there entering or leaving in the realm of the Buddha? In this way, the realm of the Buddha is sought entirely from the afflictions of all sentient beings. Asked, World Honored One, the realm of the Buddha has no entering and no leaving. The Buddha said: Manjushri, if the realm of the Buddha has no entering and no leaving, then how is the realm of the Buddha completely known from the afflictions of all sentient beings? Asked, World Honored One, how is it

Just as the realm of the Buddha has no entering and no departing, so too, whatever the nature of those afflictions may be, it also has no entering and no departing. The Buddha said: Manjushri, what is the nature of afflictions? He replied: Blessed One, whatever the nature of the realm of the Buddha may be, that is the nature of all afflictions. Blessed One, if the nature of afflictions were to become something else, and the nature of the realm of the Buddha were also something else, then the Thus-Gone One would not have taught that all phenomena are manifestly and perfectly enlightened in equality. Blessed One, thus, whatever the nature of afflictions may be, that is the nature of the realm of the Buddha, and for that reason, the Thus-Gone One teaches that all phenomena are manifestly and perfectly enlightened in equality. The Buddha said: Manjushri, do you know by what the Thus-Gone One abides in equality? He replied: Blessed One, I do. The Buddha said: Manjushri, by what does the Thus-Gone One abide in equality? He replied: Blessed One, the Thus-Gone One abides by the equality in which ordinary beings abide, from which arise attachment, hatred, and delusion. The Buddha said: Manjushri, abiding in what equality do ordinary beings universally arise with attachment, hatred, and delusion? He replied: The Thus-Gone One abides by the equality of those who abide in the equality of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. The Buddha said: Manjushri, are there attachment, hatred, and delusion in emptiness? He replied: Blessed One, by whatever existence there is the existence of emptiness, by that existence there are attachment, hatred, and delusion. The Buddha said: Manjushri, by what existence is there emptiness, and by what existence are there attachment, hatred, and delusion? He replied: Blessed One, emptiness exists by the existence of letters, speech, sound, and expression. Attachment, hatred, and delusi
