Volume One. In Indian language: Ārya-vimaladatta-paripṛcchā-nāma-mahāyāna-sūtra. In Tibetan: The Sutra of the Great Vehicle, Called "The Question Asked by Holy Vimaladatta." Homage to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard: At one time, the Blessed One was in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, in the Garden of Anathapindika, together with a great Sangha of monks, twelve hundred and fifty monks. All of them were Arhats, with defilements exhausted, without afflictions, endowed with power, their minds completely liberated, their wisdom completely liberated, intelligent, great elephants, having done what was to be done, having accomplished what was to be accomplished, having cast off the burden, having attained their own benefit, having completely exhausted the bonds of existence, their minds completely liberated by correct knowledge, having reached the supreme shore of all mental powers. Except for one person, namely the Venerable Ananda. There were also ten thousand Bodhisattvas, almost all of whom were non-returning, bound by only one more birth, namely the Bodhisattva Jewel Light, the Bodhisattva Wisdom Accumulation, the Bodhisattva Essence of Glory, the Bodhisattva Fame Intelligence, Courage Accumulation, Avalokiteshvara, Mahasthamaprapta, Maitreya, Ashoka-datta, Manjushri Kumara, Constant Delight in Walking, Seeing Meaning, Abandoning Evil Destinies, Destroying All Darkness of Sorrow, Always Adorned with Qualities, Jewel Flowers, Glorious with the Light of Golden Garlands, Completely Eliminating All Obscurations, the Bodhisattva Unobstructed Mind, and so forth, together with a hundred thousand Bodhisattvas.
