Then, the Bodhisattva-mahāsattva Maitreya arose from his seat, arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee on the ground, bowed with joined palms towards the Blessed One, and said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, I am willing, in the future time, for the sake of upholding the sacred Dharma, to protect this unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment that the Thus-Gone One has perfectly accomplished for countless billions of eons."
