Various colors are applied to different kinds of cloth in the dyeing vat. Similarly, all phenomena, which are perfectly pure in their nature, become as they are due to perceiving them as separate entities. Even sandalwood, which is pure and free from defects, when combined with conditions, its fragrance changes. Similarly, all phenomena, which are perfectly pure in their nature, are just as they appear when examined individually. For example, when a person hears the sound of a conch shell, and investigates where this sound comes from, the object itself, being empty by nature, cannot be found. O King, you should view all phenomena in the same way. For example, when a person examines the benefits of wholesome food, and how it transforms into limbs and life, the limbs and life, being non-existent, are also the same. O great sage, you should view all phenomena in the same way. For example, when a person sees a rainbow in the sky, and analyzes its components, it is without inherent existence and empty. Like a rainbow in the sky, your limbs are empty. O great sage, you should view all phenomena in the same way. Even a supreme city, when its components are analyzed, the inherent existence of the city, and even its name, cannot be found. Like a city, its components are empty in that way. O King, you should view all phenomena in the same way. If a person beats a drum for joy, although it generates happiness, the nature of the sound is empty. Just like the sound being spoken, its components are empty in that way. O King, you should view all phenomena in the same way. When a person beats that drum, the sound does not travel in any direction, nor does it arise. Similarly, the sound cannot be obstructed in any direction. O King, you should view all phenomena in the same way. When a person beats that drum, the sound is unobstructed and pleasant in nature. Your limbs are like that drum sound. O King, you should view all phenomena in the same way. When a person beats that drum, the sound is not perceived as making the world happy. Like the sound, your limbs are empty. O King, you should view all phenomena in that way. When a person beats that drum, the sound is neither moving nor a static entity. Like the drum, like the drum, your limbs are empty. O King, you should view all phenomena in the same way. When a person beats that drum, the sound is not produced from components, nor is it independent. Like the sound, your limbs are empty. O King, you

Thus, he observed all the phenomena. Then, the Blessed One understood the superior intentions of those gods of the Brahma realm and Brahma, the lord of the Saha world, and seeing that the assembly had also accumulated roots of virtue by praising in this way with the praise of seeing peace and wisdom, at that time he smiled. At that time, the venerable Aśvajit requested the Blessed One in verse: Seeing the immaculate smile emanating from the face of Shakyamuni, the world with gods, humans, nagas, and yakshas, all beings with the sight of the saving smile, I beseech you with doubt. I am happy to see and hear the beautiful face of the Sugata and stay. I beseech the Victorious One to dispel doubts with a good smile. The guide of liberation, the supreme sage, the all-knowing Buddha, the guides of beings. Without a cause, if you do not benefit the world, you have not seen a smile. Sugata, for what reason do you smile, please tell them the reason. After hearing this, beings will rejoice, doubts will be dispelled, and virtues will increase. This assembly is full of essence, without impurity, seeking the qualities of the Buddha. I look at your beautiful face, O Teacher, like the beautiful moon. I beseech you to proclaim the sound of the guide, immaculate, perfect, like Brahma. After hearing that, the assembly will cut off doubts and abide in the Dharma. Your Brahma's supreme speech is meaningful, knowing the world beyond. Beings are happy, satisfied, and all-knowing satisfy them. They accomplish all-knowing with minds cleansed of doubts. Having generated great strength of diligence, they incite the desire for strong intention. Therefore, I beseech the guide of the world, the benefactor, to proclaim the Dharma. Hearing the supreme speech of the two-legged noble one, unwavering, by that. This assembly that has obtained virtue, may their minds turn to all-knowing. The one with ten powers, may you well consider benefiting all beings. Then, the Blessed One again spoke in verse to the venerable Aśvajit: Aśvajit, the smile of benefit that I have shown to all beings. Listen with one-pointed mind and praise this beautiful form, listen. After hearing that, beings accumulate merits and quickly accomplish the benefit of the world. In this beneficial activity, strive diligently in the words spoken by the Buddha. Everything
