I have no giving. There is no giving that is completely cut off. There is no giving that relies on others. There is no giving that says little and gives only a little. There is no giving that is manifestly delighted in form, enjoyment, and power. There is no giving to bodhisattvas that desires all births as gods, including Indra, Brahma, and the guardians of the world. There is no giving to bodhisattvas that dedicates to the grounds of hearers and solitary realizers. There is no giving to bodhisattvas that is condemned by the wise. There is no giving to bodhisattvas that is not dedicated to omniscience. Shariputra, the giving of a bodhisattva is given in those ten ways with complete purity. Furthermore, Shariputra, the giving of a bodhisattva is given with complete purity in another ten ways. What are the ten? In whatever way one gives in order to be certain to emerge from conditioned phenomena and to obtain unconditioned phenomena, Shariputra, the ten benefits of the giving of a bodhisattva will be obtained. What are the ten? By giving food, one will obtain an abundance of life, courage, happiness, strength, and perfect complexion. By giving drink, one will obtain an abundance of the perfection of eliminating all afflictions and craving. By giving to young children, one will obtain an abundance of all objects of happiness. By giving clothing, one will obtain an abundance of modesty, shame, and the perfection of a color as pure as gold. By giving incense and garlands, one will obtain an abundance of the fragrance of discipline, learning, and samadhi, and unguents. By giving very fragrant incense, powders, and unguents, one will obtain an abundance of the fragrant and pleasant fragrance of the body's firmness. By giving taste, one will obtain an abundance of the marks of a great man who tastes the supreme taste among tastes. By giving dwelling places, one will obtain an abundance of dwelling places, supports, continents, protectors, and friends for all sentient beings. For example, by giving lamps, one will thoroughly obtain the complete purity and perfection of the Tathagata's five eyes. By giving cymbals, one will thoroughly obtain the complete purity and perfection of the divine ear. By giving gold, jewels, mani jewels, lapis lazuli, conch shells, agate, coral, and all precious things, one will thoroughly obtain the complete perfection of the thirty-two marks of a great man. By giving various different jewels and various different flowers, one will thoroughly obtain the complete perfection of the eighty minor marks. By giving horses, elephants, and vehicles, one will thoroughly obtain the complete perfection of vastness, spaciousness, and greatness. By giving pleasure gardens and ascetic forests, one will thoroughly obtain the complete perfection of meditation, liberation, samadhi, and samapatti. By giving wealth, grains, storehouses, and granaries, one will thoroughly obtain the complete perfection of the treasury of all Dharma jewels. By giving male servants, female servants, and laborers, one will thoroughly obtain the complete perfection of self-realization, freedom, and self-born wisdom. By giving boys and girls, one will thoroughly obtain the complete perfection of the supreme Bodhi, which is the friend of the earth, lovely, and desirable. By giving all the enjoyments of the kings of the four continents, one will thoroughly obtain the complete perfection of the omniscient wisdom of a Bodhisattva who possesses all the supreme aspects. Shariputra, these ten benefits will be fully upheld. Shariputra, a Bodhisattva who desires Bodhi, if he gives alms in this way, he will also obtain ten other benefits. What are these ten? By giving the five desirable qualities, one will completely purify and perfect the aggregates of morality, meditation, wisdom, liberation, and the knowledge and vision of liberation.
