Does not rely on others. Becomes the refuge of the world with gods, humans, and asuras. Not just entering for myself, but for all sentient beings, that is, to fully seek the unsurpassed great vehicle, the Buddha's wisdom that is unequal and the wisdom that is equal, and the wisdom that is especially superior to all three realms. Will make diligence the main thing. What is diligence? That is, properly guarding the senses. What is properly guarding the senses? That is, when the eye sees a form, it does not grasp the characteristics, it does not grasp the signs. Regarding form, one thoroughly knows attachment, faults, and arising, just as they are. Similarly, when the ear hears a sound, the nose smells an odor, the tongue tastes a flavor, the body experiences a tangible object, and the mind knows a dharma, one does not grasp the characteristics, one does not grasp the signs. Regarding all dharmas, one thoroughly knows attachment and faults, just as they are. This is called diligence. Furthermore, Shariputra, what is called diligence is when one subdues one's own mind, protects the minds of others, abandons delight in afflictions, follows delight in the Dharma, and does not generate thoughts of desire, does not generate thoughts of malice, does not generate thoughts of harm, does not generate unwholesome roots of attachment, does not generate unwholesome roots of hatred, does not generate unwholesome roots of ignorance, does not generate misconduct of body, speech, and mind, does not generate improper attention, and does not generate all sinful and unwholesome dharmas. That is called diligence. Thus, Shariputra, a diligent Bodhisattva who applies himself to proper attention thoroughly knows that what exists exists, and thoroughly knows that what does not exist does not exist. What exists and what does not exist? For application to proper attention, there is the liberation of the noble ones. For application to improper attention, there is no liberation of the noble ones. The ripening of karma exists. But whose karma has ripened, that does not exist.

Furthermore, the eye exists. That which has no eye does not exist. The ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind exist. That which has no mind does not exist. Furthermore, form is impermanent, is suffering, and is of the nature of change, that exists. Form is permanent, is stable, is of the nature of unchanging, is enduring, and remains as such, that does not exist. Feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are impermanent, are suffering, and are of the nature of change, that exists. Feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are permanent, are stable, are enduring, are of the nature of unchanging, and truly remain as such, that does not exist. Furthermore, due to the cause of ignorance, formations exist, but if there is no ignorance, there are no formations, from birth as a cause until old age and death exist, but if there is no birth, there is no old age and death. Furthermore, generosity becomes great wealth, that exists. Generosity becomes poverty, that does not exist. Keeping precepts leads to birth in the heavens, that exists. Breaking precepts leads to birth in the heavens, that does not exist. Hearing leads to great wisdom, that exists. Wrong wisdom leads to great wisdom, that does not exist. Meditation leads to liberation, that exists. Meditation does not lead to liberation, that does not exist. Improper attention leads to bondage, that exists. Improper attention leads to liberation, that does not exist. A bodhisattva who exerts effort has enlightenment. A lazy person has no enlightenment. A person without pride has the prediction of ordination. A person with pride has no nirvana. Furthermore, the emptiness that is completely gone is emptiness, that exists. For a lazy person, the self, sentient being, life, person, and individual do not exist. Thus, Shariputra, a diligent bodhisattva who possesses proper attention, whatever is known by the wise people of the world as existing, is called existence. Whatever is known by the wise people of the world as not existing, is called non-existence. The term that is called existence is also pure.

does not understand. Also, they do not correctly understand the things that are named as "non-existent." They also comprehend the true meaning spoken by all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and all the dharmas are summarized by the Tathagata and assembled like the sutras of the Dharma. What are the four? They are: all conditioned things are impermanent, all conditioned things are suffering, all phenomena are without self, and nirvana is peace. The so-called "all conditioned things are impermanent" is taught by the Tathagata in order to abandon the perception of permanence in beings who perceive permanence. The so-called "all conditioned things are suffering" is taught by the Tathagata in order to abandon the perception of happiness in beings who perceive happiness. The so-called "all phenomena are without self" is taught by the Tathagata in order to abandon the perception of self in beings who perceive self. The so-called "nirvana is peace" is taught by the Tathagata in order to abandon the reversed perceptions of beings whose minds are reversed by objects. Therefore, having heard that "all conditioned things are impermanent," one enters into the very impermanence itself. Having heard that "all conditioned things are suffering," one generates a mind free from aspirations. Having heard that "all phenomena are without self," one meditates on the samadhi of emptiness and the doors of liberation. Having heard that "nirvana is peace," one becomes completely familiar with the signless. One does not directly realize the true limit at an inappropriate time. Therefore, Shariputra, a Bodhisattva who is diligent in such Dharma does not decline from virtuous Dharma, and quickly perfects all the Buddha's Dharmas. The third chapter, Examination of the Bodhisattva, is complete. Third Chapter: Examination of the Bodhisattva.
