Third, the chapter called "Examination of the Bodhisattva." Third, the chapter called "Examination of the Bodhisattva." Volume Three. Then, the venerable Shariputra rose from his seat, draped his upper garment over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and bowed with folded hands towards where the Blessed One was. He said to the Blessed One: "If, after asking, the Blessed One would grant me the opportunity to ask for the sake of prophecy, I would ask the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha about some aspects." After saying this, the Blessed One said to the venerable Shariputra: "Shariputra, ask the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha whatever you wish to ask, and I will satisfy your mind with the prophecy of what you ask." After saying this, the venerable Shariputra said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, with how many qualities do Bodhisattvas possess so that their bodily actions are without fault, their speech actions are without fault, their mental actions are without fault, their bodily actions are completely pure, their speech actions are completely pure, their mental actions are completely pure, their bodily actions are unmoving, their speech actions are unmoving, and their mental actions are unmoving? From the arising of the mind of omniscience, they cannot be moved by demons and the gods of the demonic hosts. They are skilled in ascending from ground to ground, are the guides of all sentient beings, are the distinct guides, are the complete guides, are the lamps, are the bridges, are the boats, are the saviors, are those who go to the other shore, are the dwellings, are the protectors, are the saviors, are the friends, and cannot be turned back from the arising of the mind of omniscience." Then, the venerable Shariputra, with a verse that fully encompassed that meaning, said to the Blessed One: "By what does one enter the path to enlightenment? What is the meaning of that hero? By what does a noble one attain Buddhahood? What are the qualities and dharmas?"
