Chapter 18: Going to the Willow Grove and Accepting Offerings Chapter 18: Going to the Willow Grove and Accepting Offerings Then, the Lord of Secrets, Vajrapani, having received the complete prophecy of attainment, was satisfied and delighted, filled with joy and happiness, and said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, please consider me with compassion. May you, together with the Bodhisattvas and the great Shravakas, go to the courtyard of the palace in the Willow Grove, the abode of me, the Lord of Secrets, and stay there for seven days. Why is that? Blessed One, in the courtyard of the palace in the Willow Grove, there are many Yakshas, Kumbhandas, Rakshasas, flesh-eaters, Gandharvas, and great belly-crawling ghosts. If those various kinds of beings who dwell there see the Blessed One and hear the Dharma, it will be for their long-term benefit, medicine, happiness, accomplishment, and well-being. Moreover, they will not generate anger or resentment. The attendants of the Four Great Kings will also have long-term benefit, medicine, happiness, accomplishment, and well-being. Blessed One, out of compassion for the Lord of Secrets, Vajrapani, to increase the roots of virtue of all sentient beings, and to fulfill the wishes of the Lord of Secrets, Vajrapani, the Blessed One granted permission to go with the Bodhisattvas, the great Bodhisattvas, and the great Shravakas to the courtyard of the palace in the Willow Grove, the abode of the Lord of Secrets, and to stay there for seven days. Then, the Lord of Secrets, Vajrapani, knowing that the Blessed One's silence was consent, was satisfied and delighted, filled with joy and happiness, bowed his head to the feet of the Blessed One, circumambulated the Blessed One three times, and then departed from the presence of the Blessed One, went to the courtyard of the palace in the Willow Grove, and returned to his own abode. Then, the Lord of Secrets, Vajrapani, thought to himself: "I should make offerings to the Tathagata, the Blessed One."

He also thought to himself: I know through clairvoyance that at one time, the Blessed One Tathagata, in order to prophesy to a hundred thousand Bodhisattvas in the Buddha-field of the King of Array, the Blessed One, without sleeping at night, entered into the Samadhi called 'Possessing Inconceivable Conduct'. From this world to the east, passing through Buddha-fields as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, when he went to the world called 'Endless Array of Qualities and Jewels', in that Buddha-field I saw a pure array that surpassed all the inconceivable arrays of gods and humans. For the sake of offering to the Blessed One, I should build a retinue palace like the array of the world of Endless Array of Qualities and Jewels. Then, the Lord of Secrets, Vajrapani, at that time entered into the Samadhi called 'King of Great Array'. As soon as the Lord of Secrets, Vajrapani, entered into the Samadhi of the King of Great Array, from then on, at that time, a retinue palace like the array of the world of Endless Array of Qualities and Jewels appeared in the center of the lotus pond palace retinue. That retinue palace was vast and huge, sixty-four yojanas long from east to west, and forty-two yojanas wide from north to south. The ground was of the nature of blue beryl, the outside was made of Indranila sapphire, the tops of the pillars were adorned with all kinds of jewels, decorated with lotuses of Jambu River gold, adorned with various garlands, laid with many silk ornaments, hung with many pearl garlands, decorated with many silk ribbons, and radiant.

以众多的花鬘覆盖，用众多的香熏熏染，散布着各种颜色的天花，鲜艳，悦目，赏心，使身体舒畅，使内心喜悦，具有无边功德之聚，无量赞叹之教。在那围绕的庭院里，用珍贵的狮子宝座的根基装饰，用珍贵的栏杆环绕，具有珍贵的莲花布置，覆盖着珍珠网，绘制着孔雀眼，铺设着众多的天布装饰，上面绘制着珍宝网，布置是前所未见，前所未闻，在众多的世界里没有的成百上千。还陈设着百味美食。还安放着成百上千的狮子座，在每个狮子座之间的虚空中，也绘制着具有各种殊胜的珍宝伞。然后，秘密主金刚手以这样的方式布置了庭院，布置了狮子座，以这样的方式，具有正念和正知，从那个禅定中起身，在那天晚上，准备了适合供养如来的食物，以菩提心完全清净，具有众多各种美味，也陈设了众多福德，天亮之后，对四大天王说：朋友们，要知道！我将世尊与菩萨们，以及大声闻们一起，迎请到秘密者自己的住所，世尊因为怜悯我而应允。因此，你们率领军队，率领侍从，以不散乱的心，在七天之内，不做其他事情，欢喜地对如来作供养和服侍！在围绕着竹林精舍的夜叉，罗刹，饿鬼，食肉者，乾闼婆，瓮形鬼，秘密者，大腹行鬼等众多居住者，以及不是那些的其他众生居住者，对他们也要说：朋友们，要知道！我迎请世尊到竹林精舍的这个庭院，请允许他前来。因此，你们不要怀有恶意。

Covered with many garlands of flowers, perfumed with many incenses, scattered with heavenly flowers of various colors, bright, pleasing to the eye, delightful, making the body comfortable, creating joy in the mind, possessing an infinite collection of qualities, immeasurable teachings of praise. In that surrounding courtyard, decorated with the roots of precious lion thrones, surrounded by precious railings, possessing precious lotus arrangements, covered with pearl nets, painted with peacock eyes, laid with many heavenly cloth decorations, with precious nets painted above, the arrangement was unseen and unheard before, hundreds and thousands that did not exist in many worlds. Also arranged were hundreds of delicious foods. Also placed were hundreds and thousands of lion thrones, and in the space between each lion throne, precious umbrellas possessing all kinds of excellence were also painted. Then, the lord of secrets, Vajrapani, arranged the courtyard in this way, arranged the lion thrones in this way, with mindfulness and awareness, arose from that samadhi, and on that night, prepared food suitable for offering to the Tathagata, completely purified by the mind of a Bodhisattva, possessing many kinds of delicious flavors, and also arranged much merit, and after dawn, said to the Four Great Kings: Friends, know this! I will invite the Bhagavan together with the Bodhisattvas, and the great Shravakas, to the secret one's own abode, and the Bhagavan has consented out of compassion for me. Therefore, you, leading your armies, leading your attendants, with an undistracted mind, for seven days, without doing other things, joyfully make offerings and service to the Tathagata! To the Yakshas, Rakshasas, Pretas, flesh-eaters, Gandharvas, Kumbhandas, Guhyakas, large-bellied ghosts, and other beings residing around the Bamboo Grove Vihara, also say to them: Friends, know this! I am inviting the Bhagavan to this courtyard of the Bamboo Grove Vihara, please allow him to come. Therefore, do not harbor malice.
