The possessor, in the Deer Park of the Hermitage in the city of Varanasi, the lion throne of the Blessed One, its measure being forty-two thousand yojanas, possessing all excellence, adorned, pleasing, upon which a seat was arranged. Just as Brahma with the topknot arranged the lion throne of the Thus-Gone One, so too ten kotis of Brahmas, ten kotis of Indras, and ten kotis of Bodhisattvas with retinues also arranged the lion throne of the Blessed One, adorned, pleasing, possessing all excellence. Peaceful Wisdom, thereafter the Blessed One went to the great city of Varanasi, to where the Deer Park of the Hermitage was, and having arrived, upon all those lion thrones, he himself dwelt and relied upon them. There, each one knew that the Thus-Gone One would sit upon my lion throne, and having sat upon my lion throne, he would turn the wheel of Dharma, and they, with joy and great joy, became irreversible from unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment. As soon as the Blessed One sat upon that lion throne, then at that time, the ten directions, the boundless, limitless realms of the world shook greatly and were filled with great light. Then at that time, the Blessed One entered into the samadhi called 'Boundless Realm'. As soon as the Blessed One entered into that samadhi of 'Boundless Realm', then at that time, the three thousand great thousand world realms remained in equanimity and became like the palm of a hand. In the three thousand great thousand world realms, all sentient beings, whether hell-beings, or those born as animals, or those in the realm of Yama, or humans, or gods, all sentient beings, at that time were endowed with happiness, and no sentient being was harmed by desire, nor by hatred, nor by delusion, without the harm of all afflictions, and one towards another arose with the thought of just parents, and were endowed with a loving heart. The Blessed One, with an inconceivable realm,

Immediately after abiding in that samadhi of subduing, then, at that time, countless and immeasurable Bodhisattvas from the ten directions arrived in order to listen to the Dharma of the Bhagavan. In the trichiliocosm, all the gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, humans, and non-humans, who are known as the most powerful, all went to where the Bhagavan was in order to listen to the Dharma. Peaceful Intelligence, at that time, in this trichiliocosm, there was not even a space as small as the tip of a hair that was not filled by those who were known as the most powerful listeners of the Bhagavan's Dharma. Then, the Bhagavan, knowing that the great assembly had gathered, arose from that samadhi with mindfulness and awareness. The Tathagata, moved by the eyes of great compassion, gazed upon the entire world with all its qualities, and then turned the wheel of Dharma that no shramana or brahmin could turn in accordance with the Dharma in the world. Peaceful Intelligence, the Tathagata turned that wheel of assembly in order to satisfy the minds of all sentient beings, knowing that the assembled sentient beings each understood according to their own knowledge. When the Bhagavan turned the wheel of Dharma, countless and immeasurable Bodhisattvas from the ten directions gathered in order to listen to the Dharma. Countless billions of hundreds of thousands of sons of gods who abide in the desire realm and the form realm also gathered. Peaceful Intelligence, when the Bhagavan spoke the words, "Kaundinya, the eye is impermanent," those who were subdued by suffering heard, "The eye is suffering." Those who were subdued by selflessness heard, "The eye is selfless." Those who were subdued by emptiness heard, "The eye is empty." Those who were subdued by peace heard, "The eye is peaceful." Those who were subdued by solitude

It is heard that some are subdued by the stillness of the eye. Those who are subdued by impermanence hear that the eye is impermanent. Those who are subdued by the absence of a place hear that the eye is without a place. Those who are subdued by illusion hear that the eye is like an illusion. Those who are subdued by dreams hear that the eye is like a dream. Those who are subdued by the moon in water hear that the eye is like the moon in water. Those who are subdued by eye disease hear that the eye is like eye disease. Those who are subdued by echoes hear that the eye is like an echo. Similarly, those who are subdued by emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, non-fabrication, unbornness, and non-arising hear that the eye is emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, non-fabrication, unbornness, and non-arising. Those who are subdued by dependent origination hear that the eye is dependently originated. Just as with the eye, so too with the mind, it is dependently originated. Similarly, it is said that forms, sounds, smells, tastes, tactile objects, and dharmas are also the same. Some hear that the aggregates are impermanent, and some hear that the elements are impermanent. Some hear that the sense bases are without self. Some hear that the aggregates are impermanent, but the elements are not impermanent. Some hear that the elements are impermanent, but the aggregates are not impermanent. Some are liberated by the sound of suffering. Some are liberated by the sound of origin. Some are liberated by the sound of cessation. Some are liberated by the sound of the path. Some hear that this is the discourse on mindfulness. Some hear that this is the discourse on right abandonment. Some hear that this is the discourse on the foundations of miraculous power. Some hear that this is the discourse on faculties. Some hear that this is the discourse on powers. Some hear that this is the discourse on the limbs of enlightenment. Some hear that this is the discourse on the path. Some hear that this is the discourse on tranquility.
