Fifth, the chapter on the previous conduct of Dhritarashtra. Fifth, the chapter on the previous conduct of Dhritarashtra. Then, some Bodhisattvas from that assembly thought to themselves: Where did this Lord of Secrets plant his roots of virtue? How many Buddhas, the Bhagavat, did he attend and serve? What kind of aspiration did he make that he has become endowed with such courage? Then, the Bhagavat, knowing thoroughly the thoughts of those Bodhisattvas, spoke to the Bodhisattva Wisdom Born: Peaceful Wisdom, in the past, in a time long ago, countless eons beyond countless eons, vast, immeasurable, inconceivable, incalculable, at that time, in that era, in an eon called Beautiful Appearance, there appeared in the world a realm called Decorated World, a Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly and completely enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Sugata, knower of the world, tamer of beings, unsurpassed, teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, Bhagavat, named King of Limitless Qualities, Jewel Adornment, who appeared in the world. Peaceful Wisdom, that Decorated World was prosperous, flourishing, peaceful, bountiful, delightful, inhabited by many gods and humans, as flat as the palm of a hand, without gravel or pebbles, and the grass that grew there was soft, pleasant to the touch like Kacalindika cloth, blue like the neck of a peacock, with swastikas spiraling to the right, possessing color, possessing fragrance, pleasing, sinking four fingers when stepped on, rising four fingers when lifted, neither too cold nor too hot, small and cool, growing according to desire. That great earth was also adorned with blue lapis lazuli. Those beings also became handsome and endowed with wisdom, with little attachment, hatred, and ignorance, all afflictions were small, and they possessed the power to understand the meaning of all well-spoken words. The Bhagavat, King of Limitless Qualities, Jewel Adornment, thus

The Sangha of Shravaka Bhikshus of that Buddha numbered twelve billion kotis. The Bodhisattva Sangha numbered thirty-two billion kotis. That Buddha's lifespan was thirty-six billion kotis of years. People also did not die suddenly and untimely. Peaceful Wisdom, at that time, in that adorned world realm, the intermediate world of the four continents called Beautiful Appearance was extremely prosperous, flourishing, peaceful, very fertile, vast, and had large boundaries. Each of the four continents was eight thousand four hundred eighty-four million yojanas. There, the great cities were one yojana apart, surrounded by thousands of villages, markets, and mountain forests. Peaceful Wisdom, in the center of the four continents called Beautiful Appearance, there was a palace city called Pure, vast and extensive, sixty-four yojanas long from north to south, and forty-two yojanas long from east to west, adorned with thousands of gardens, surrounded by thousands of villages, markets, and mountain forests. ekṣaṇi. Golden sands are spread out, filled with water possessing eight qualities, everywhere covered with jeweled lotuses. Swans, waterfowls, cuckoos, and geese make four sounds, namely: 'Joy,' 'Supreme Joy,' 'Supreme Fragrance,' and 'Water flowing in succession.' King Śāntamati, Protector of the Realm, had seven hundred thousand consorts of his queen, all of whom were young women with names, exactly like the enjoyment of jewels. All of them had rightly entered into the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment. He had a full thousand sons, who were brave, steadfast, possessed of the best bodily form, able to completely destroy the enemy's camp, adorned with the twenty-eight marks of a great man, and who had entered into the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment with superior intention. At that time, the Blessed One, the Tathāgata Guṇānantaratnarājasamalaṃkṛta, resided in the pure royal palace surrounded by his retinue, and was respected, honored, revered, and worshiped by the king, the king's great ministers, brahmins, householders, townspeople, and the people of the region. King Śāntamati, Protector of the Realm, for a full billion years, with pleasing food, drink, fine clothes, monasteries, and the enjoyment of walking, attended upon the Blessed One, the Tathāgata Guṇānantaratnarājasamalaṃkṛta, together with the entire community of monks, and offered three servants for the service and conduct of each monk. Those young princes of Śāntamati were also devoted to respecting and worshiping the Tathāgata, and, desiring the Dharma, became cautious and did not seek the qualities of desire. Being cautious and listening to the holy Dharma, and thinking with their minds, they quickly developed the five superknowledges. Having developed them, from the sky above, the king of swans...
