This is to abide in the knowledge of the Perfection of Wisdom. If one practices the ten virtuous paths of action for hundreds of thousands of eons, but generates a desire for the state of a Hearer or Solitary Realizer, then that is when moral discipline is flawed and moral discipline is broken. That generation of mind is even heavier than the defeat by the four defeats. Guarding moral discipline and dedicating all virtue to supreme enlightenment, one is without pride and does not praise oneself, and completely abandons the thought of "I" and the thought of sentient beings. This speaks of a Bodhisattva abiding in the Perfection of Moral Discipline. If a Bodhisattva practices the path of the Victorious Ones, and thinks, "These sentient beings are disciplined, these sentient beings are undisciplined," engaging in various thoughts, then moral discipline is extremely violated. Moral discipline is broken and one does not have pure moral discipline. Whoever does not have the thought of "I" and the thought of sentient beings, for one whose thought is free from desire, how can there be vows and non-vows? Whoever does not have vows and non-vows, and is without pride, this is what the Sugata has said to be the discipline of moral discipline. Whatever pure sentient being is thus disciplined, does not have attachment to what is pleasing and unpleasing. Giving away head, hands, and feet, one also does not have a mind of timidity, giving away all possessions, one is also constantly without attachment. Knowing that all phenomena are without self-nature, like illusions and flames, even giving away one's own flesh and blood, one does not have a mind of timidity, then what need is there to speak of giving away external objects? If one is miserly, then there is no place to abide. Because of the thought of "I," one is attached to things as "mine." How can foolish ones have the mind of giving? A miserly person will be born in the realm of the hungry ghosts. Even if one is born as a human, then one will become poor. At that time, a Bodhisattva, knowing that sentient beings are poor, will be delighted in giving and will always give generously. The four continents, well adorned, are like ashes of spittle. One becomes happy after giving, but not like that of obtaining the continents. A wise Bodhisattva, clearly seeing the three realms, gives this generosity to all sentient beings as many as there are, thinking, "May it become giving," and giving and giving. That too is for the sake of beings, dedicating to supreme enlightenment. After giving generosity, one does not abide in things, and one never hopes for ripening results. Thus, one who is skilled in giving is giving everything, giving a small thing will become many immeasurable things.

All sentient beings in the three realms, If one can observe them well, All the Buddhas who know the world, Arhats, Pratyekabuddhas, and Shravakas, Giving alms in countless eons, Whatever Bodhisattva is wise and skillful, Having rejoiced in their virtuous deeds, If one dedicates them entirely to the supreme Bodhi For the benefit of sentient beings, All beings will be overcome by the dedication. Even a great heap of precious jewels, A single, excellent lapis lazuli overcomes them all. Likewise, all the vast accumulations of alms Given by all beings, The Bodhisattva overcomes them with rejoicing. If a Bodhisattva constantly gives Material possessions to sentient beings, Without clinging to them as "mine" and without stinginess, Then the root of virtue will increase greatly, Like a full, waxing moon Without clouds and full of light. Chapter 6: Showing the Gradual Path By the Bodhisattva's generosity, the realm of the pretas is cut off, As well as poverty and all afflictions. When practicing, one obtains endless joy and prosperity. Generosity fully ripens sentient beings who have become miserable. By patience, one obtains a great and excellent form, A golden color, pleasing and worthy to be seen by beings. By diligence, white qualities do not diminish. One obtains endless wisdom, The treasury of the Victorious Ones. By meditation, one abandons the faults of inferior qualities of desire. Supernormal knowledge, direct perception, and samadhi are directly realized. By wisdom, having fully known the nature of phenomena, One truly transcends the entirety of the three realms. The best of humans, having turned the precious wheel, Also teaches the Dharma to beings in order to end suffering. Chapter 7: Showing Complete and Perfect Enlightenment in a Single Moment The Bodhisattva, having perfected this Dharma. Chapter 8: Showing the Dharmakaya Completely holds pure lands and Pure all sentient beings, Also holds the Buddha lineage, And also the lineage of all Dharmas, Likewise, also holds the Sangha, And all the Dharmas, Heals the diseases of beings.
