Chapter Twenty-eight: The Chapter on Scattering Flowers Chapter Twenty-eight: The Chapter on Scattering Flowers The Eight Thousand Verse Prajñāpāramitā, Chapter Twenty-two. Then, at that time, another son of the gods, together with the gods of the Thirty-three Heavens, holding Mandārava flowers and great Mandārava flowers, approached the Blessed One, and where the Blessed One was, they prostrated with palms joined. By the power of the Buddha, the palms of those monks were filled with Mandārava flowers and great Mandārava flowers. They scattered, greatly scattered, and completely scattered those Mandārava flowers and great Mandārava flowers upon the Tathāgata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, and spoke these words: "Blessed One, we shall practice this Prajñāpāramitā. Blessed One, we shall abide in this unsurpassed state of Prajñāpāramitā." Then, at that time, the Blessed One smiled. This is the Dharma-nature, that when the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, smile, rays of various colors, such as blue, yellow, red, white, madder, crystal, silver, and gold, emanate from the Blessed One's mouth. These rays illuminated all the boundless, limitless, and endless realms of the world, rising upwards to the realm of Brahmā, and then circumambulated the Blessed One three times before dissolving into the Blessed One's crown. Then, the Venerable Ānanda rose from his seat, arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and, with palms joined, prostrated towards the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: "Without a cause, without a condition, the Tathāgata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, does not smile. Blessed One, what is the cause of your smile? What is the condition?" Having asked this, the Blessed One said to the Venerable Ānanda: "Ānanda, in the future, in the constellation kalpa...

Thus, these sixty hundred thousand monks will realize the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and after realizing enlightenment and becoming Buddhas, they will also teach the Dharma to sentient beings. All will have one name, namely, the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha named Flower Adorned, will appear in the world. Ananda, the Tathagatas, Arhats, Samyak-sambuddhas named Flower Adorned, all those Shravaka Sanghas will be equal. The Tathagatas, Arhats, Samyak-sambuddhas named Flower Adorned, the measure of all their lifetimes will also be equal, being twenty thousand kalpas. All their respective scriptures will also be extensive, becoming vast and extensive among gods and humans. All their respective sacred Dharmas will also equally abide for twenty thousand kalpas. From whatever villages, cities, towns, regions, countries, and royal palaces they will manifest, and after manifesting, in whatever places they will turn the wheel of Dharma, and after turning the wheel, in whatever places they will abide, and from whatever places they will enter into whatever places, and from whatever places whatever will arise, from that place they will enter into that place, and in the places of arising and abiding, a rain of flowers with five kinds of colors will abundantly fall. Ananda, therefore, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who wish to abide in the supreme abode should also abide in the abode of the Prajnaparamita. Ananda, those who wish to abide in the abode of the Tathagata should also abide in the abode of the Prajnaparamita. Ananda, whatever Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas practice the Prajnaparamita, it should be understood that they have died and transmigrated from humans and been born here, or they have died and transmigrated from the Tushita gods and been born among humans. Why is that? Thus, among humans and the Tushita gods, the Prajna
