Twenty-seventh Chapter, Essence Chapter. Twenty-seventh Chapter, Essence Chapter. Then, the venerable Shariputra said to the venerable Subhuti: "Venerable Subhuti, how wonderful! The Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices prajnaparamita practices the essence." After saying this, the venerable Shariputra said: "Venerable Shariputra, how wonderful! The Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices prajnaparamita practices the non-essence." Then, many sons of the Paranirmitavasavarti gods thought: "Those beings who have generated the mind for unsurpassed perfect enlightenment and are realizing it are truly pitiful!" Those who practice this profound prajnaparamita, even if they practice in this way, do not realize the right edge in the Hearer or Solitary Buddha ground, and those who practice the Dharma-nature of all dharmas, but do not realize the Dharma-nature, by this name, it should also be known that the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas are practicing austerities. Then, the venerable Subhuti, knowing the thoughts of the minds of those many sons of the Paranirmitavasavarti gods, said to those many sons of the Paranirmitavasavarti gods: "Sons of the gods, those Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who do not realize the right edge are not practicing austerities. Sons of the gods, when those Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas think: 'I will completely liberate countless immeasurable beings from nirvana!' those armored Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas are practicing austerities, and are practicing extremely difficult austerities. Because beings are solitary, those beings are also completely non-existent, and because they are non-existent, they are without an object of focus. Similarly, those who should be tamed are also completely non-existent, and because they are non-existent, they are without an object of focus. Thus, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas think: 'I will tame beings,' and thereby realize unsurpassed perfect enlightenment.

has also entered correctly. Sons of the gods, if someone thinks of taming sentient beings, it is like thinking of taming the sky. Why is that? Sons of the gods, because the sky is solitary, sentient beings should be known as solitary. Sons of the gods, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva puts on armor for the sake of sentient beings who are truly non-existent and unattainable, then engaging in this manner is difficult. Sons of the gods, if someone thinks of putting on armor for the sake of sentient beings, it is like thinking of contending with the sky. The Bodhisattva-Mahasattva has put on this armor for the sake of sentient beings. Moreover, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, has said that those sentient beings are indeed unattainable, and therefore it should be known that sentient beings are solitary. Therefore, for the sake of taming what is solitary, the Bodhisattva should know solitude. If the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not become discouraged by this explanation, sons of the gods, then it should be known that that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. Why is that? Because sentient beings are solitary, therefore form should be known as solitary. Similarly, because sentient beings are solitary, feeling, perception, and formations should be known as solitary, and because sentient beings are solitary, consciousness should be known as solitary. Similarly, because sentient beings are solitary, solitude should be known among all dharmas. Sons of the gods, therefore, all dharmas should be regarded as being of the nature of solitude. Sons of the gods, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not become discouraged when all dharmas are thus explained as being of the nature of solitude, then because of this lack of discouragement, he is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. Then, knowing this, the Blessed One addressed the venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, why is it that when all dharmas are thus explained as being of the nature of solitude, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not become discouraged? Subhuti replied: Blessed One, it is because of solitude that he does not become discouraged. Blessed One, for this reason, the Bodhisattva
