Chapter Twenty-Six: Rejoicing Chapter Twenty-Six: Rejoicing Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, thought to himself: "Even by practicing this profound Prajñāpāramitā, a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva can overwhelm sentient beings. What need is there to mention when he manifestly and perfectly awakens to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment? Those sentient beings who direct their minds towards omniscience also obtain great gains, and those sentient beings also live a good life. What need is there to mention those who generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment? Those sentient beings who generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and those who, even without generating the mind, constantly listen to this profound Prajñāpāramitā, are desirable beings!" Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, took Mandārava flowers and scattered them upon the Tathāgata, Arhat, perfectly and completely awakened Buddha, scattering them widely and thoroughly, and spoke these words: "By this merit, may the Buddha-dharmas of those sons or daughters of good family who are of the Bodhisattva-vehicle, who are particularly focused on unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, be completely fulfilled! May omniscience also be completely fulfilled! May the self-arisen dharmas also be completely fulfilled! Therefore, may the undefiled dharmas also be completely fulfilled!" Thus he spoke. Venerable Bhagavan, I will never, ever, have even the slightest thought that any son or daughter of good family of the Bodhisattva-vehicle will turn away from unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment and become a Śrāvaka or Pratyekabuddha. I will generate aspiration for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and I will turn it back. I will make a vow for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, because I see these sufferings of wandering in samsara, which are among gods, humans, and asuras.

I think this is for the benefit and welfare of the world. Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who have generated the mind of enlightenment always think like this: How can I cross over from samsara and liberate beings who have not crossed over? How can I be liberated from samsara and liberate beings who have not been liberated? How can I breathe my last and enable beings who have not breathed their last to breathe? How can I completely pass into nirvana and enable beings who have not completely passed into nirvana to enter into nirvana? They think like this in their hearts. Venerable Bhagavan, I rejoice in the mind generation of those Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who first enter the vehicle; similarly, I rejoice in the mind generation of those Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who have practiced for a long time; similarly, I rejoice in the mind generation of those irreversible Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas; similarly, I also rejoice in the mind generation of those Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who are bound by one lifetime. How much merit will that son or daughter of good family accumulate? After this request, the Bhagavan said to Indra, the lord of the gods: Kausika, this world of the four great continents can be measured by the measure of a scale. But the measure of merit of the mind generation arising from the rejoicing of those sons or daughters of good family is not like that. Kausika, the drops of water in all the great oceans in this three-thousand great-thousand world can be measured by the tip of a hair divided into a hundred parts. But the measure of merit of the mind generation arising from the rejoicing of those sons or daughters of good family is not like that. After saying this, Indra, the lord of the gods, said to the Bhagavan: Venerable Bhagavan, which beings generate the mind

Those who do not rejoice are blessed by the demons. Bhikshu, Blessed One, those beings who do not rejoice in those who generate the mind of enlightenment are the retinue of the demons. Bhikshu, Blessed One, those beings who do not rejoice in those who generate the mind of enlightenment are those who have died from the place of the demons and been born here. Why is that? Because those who accomplish this generation of the mind of enlightenment and dedicate it to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment are destroying the place of the demons. One should rejoice in those who generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Those who do not abandon the Buddha, do not abandon the Dharma, and do not abandon the Sangha, one should rejoice in these generations of the mind, and having rejoiced in these generations of the mind, one should dedicate them to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment without clinging to these generations of the mind as one, as two, or as many. The Blessed One said: Kausika, it is just so. It is just as you have said. Those who rejoice in these generations of the mind will quickly realize the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and while practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva, they will quickly please the Tathagatas, Arhats, perfect and complete Buddhas. At no time will they see unpleasant forms, hear unpleasant sounds, smell unpleasant odors, taste unpleasant flavors, touch unpleasant tactile sensations, or mentally cognize unpleasant dharmas. At no time will they be separated from seeing the Buddhas. Going from Buddha-field to Buddha-field,
