I have not found any dharma by which to attain perfect enlightenment anywhere. Why is that? Because all dharmas are emptiness of conditioned and unconditioned. Because it is utterly pure. Then, the venerable Subhuti said this to the Blessed One: Venerable Blessed One, when the Blessed One said this: Gods, unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment is difficult to manifest. I understand the meaning of what the Blessed One said, and as I think, unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment is easy to manifest, and it is easy to be perfectly enlightened. Why is that? Venerable Blessed One, like this, all dharmas are empty of all dharmas, and no dharma can make any dharma perfectly enlightened, all dharmas are emptiness, what can be perfectly enlightened? Or who can be perfectly enlightened? Or where can one become perfectly enlightened? Because there is no such dharma and it is not found. Why is that? Venerable Blessed One, like this, all dharmas are empty of all dharmas, Bodhisattva Mahasattva gives alms in order to decrease or increase what dharma, and likewise, keeps the precepts, cultivates patience, makes diligent effort, enters into samadhi, cultivates wisdom, and likewise combines them, even those dharmas practiced up to all-knowingness are not there and are not found. Venerable Blessed One, therefore, the unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is easy to arise, and it is easy to become perfectly enlightened. Why is that? Venerable Blessed One, like this, form is empty of its own nature, likewise, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are empty of their own nature, likewise combine them, up to all-knowingness is empty of its own nature. Then, the venerable Sharadvatiputra, the venerable

The Blessed One said this: "Subhuti, it is precisely because of this reason that the unexcelled, perfect enlightenment of a Bodhisattva is extremely difficult to arise, and it is extremely difficult to become perfectly enlightened. For example, the sky does not think, 'I will become perfectly enlightened with unexcelled, perfect enlightenment.' Subhuti, similarly, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva also does not think, 'I will become perfectly enlightened with unexcelled, perfect enlightenment.' Why is that? Subhuti, all dharmas are equal to the sky. Because a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva believes in all dharmas as being like the sky, they will become perfectly enlightened with unexcelled, perfect enlightenment. Subhuti, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva believes in all dharmas as being like the sky, then unexcelled, perfect enlightenment is easy to arise, and it is easy to become perfectly enlightened. It is not difficult to arise, and it is not difficult to become perfectly enlightened. If it is not difficult to arise and not difficult to become perfectly enlightened, then Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who have donned armor, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, will not turn back from unexcelled, perfect enlightenment. Subhuti, it is precisely because of this reason that unexcelled, perfect enlightenment is seen to be extremely difficult to arise and difficult to become perfectly enlightened." From the One Hundred Thousand Verse Perfection of Wisdom, the chapter called "The Chapter on Non-Grasping and Non-Abandoning," the twenty-third.
