Twenty-third Chapter: The Chapter on Non-Grasping and Non-Abandoning. Twenty-third Chapter: The Chapter on Non-Grasping and Non-Abandoning. Then, the gods of the desire realm and the form realm, with powders of celestial sandalwood, and incense from China, and powders of tala leaves, and celestial utpala flowers, lotuses, kumuda flowers, and white lotuses, scattered them upon the Blessed One Buddha, and went to where the Blessed One was, bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One, and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, those gods said this to the Blessed One: Venerable Blessed One, it is like this: this profound Prajnaparamita is difficult to realize, cannot be conceived, is not the realm of thought, is peaceful, subtle, and is to be understood by the wise and intelligent. Venerable Blessed One, it is like this: in this profound Prajnaparamita, the Bodhi taught by the Blessed Buddhas is contrary to all the world. For example, form itself is all-knowingness, all-knowingness itself is form. Likewise, feeling, likewise, perception, likewise, formations, likewise, consciousness itself is all-knowingness, all-knowingness itself is consciousness. Whatever is the suchness of form, and whatever is the suchness of all-knowingness, likewise, feeling, perception, formations, and whatever is the suchness of consciousness, and whatever is the suchness of all-knowingness, that suchness is one, not two, and there is no division into two. For example, the eye itself is all-knowingness, and all-knowingness itself is the eye. Likewise, the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind itself is all-knowingness, and all-knowingness itself is the mind. Whatever is the suchness of the eye, and whatever is the suchness of all-knowingness, that suchness is one, not two.

There is no distinction between the two. Similarly, whatever is the suchness of the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind, and whatever is the suchness of the all-knowingness, that suchness is one, not two, and there is no distinction. Just as these forms themselves are all-knowingness, and all-knowingness is these forms. Similarly, sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharmas themselves are all-knowingness, and all-knowingness is these dharmas. Just as whatever is the suchness of form, and whatever is the suchness of all-knowingness, that suchness is one, not two, and there is no distinction. Similarly, the eye element itself is all-knowingness, and all-knowingness is the eye element, whatever is the suchness of the eye, and whatever is the suchness of all-knowingness, that suchness is one, not two, and there is no distinction. Just as the form element, the eye consciousness element, the ear element, the sound element, the ear consciousness element, the nose element, the smell element, the nose consciousness element, the tongue element, the taste element, the tongue consciousness element, the body element, the touch element, the body consciousness element, the mind element, the dharma element, and the mind consciousness element themselves are all-knowingness, and all-knowingness is the mind consciousness element, thus whatever is the suchness of the mind consciousness element, and whatever is the suchness of all-knowingness, that suchness is one, not two, and there is no distinction. Similarly, just as these mindfulnesses themselves are all-knowingness, and all-knowingness is these mindfulnesses. Similarly, whatever are the right abandonments, and the miraculous feet, and the faculties, and so on.
