also not liberated. It is also not through seeing the absence of things, nor is it liberated through seeing things and the absence of things. Similarly, combining them, just as the aggregates of form have been shown, everything should be expanded. So he spoke. After he had spoken thus, the venerable Sharadvatiputra said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable Blessed One, since form is not present and not visible in this way, how can one expect to be liberated by seeing form as a thing, or seeing the absence of a thing, or seeing a thing and the absence of a thing? Similarly, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are also like that. Similarly, the eye is also like that, combining them in this way, up to the mind. Similarly, forms are also like that, combining them in this way, up to dharmas. Similarly, the eye element is also like that, combining them in this way, up to the mind-consciousness element. Similarly, the noble truths are also like that, combining them in this way, up to old age and death. Similarly, the mindfulnesses are also like that, combining them in this way, up to the eightfold noble path. Similarly, the doors of liberation are also like that, combining them in this way, up to the emptiness of the nature of the absence of things. Similarly, the ten powers of the Tathagata are also like that, combining them in this way, up to omniscience. Similarly, the six perfections are also like that, combining them in this way, up to the eighty minor marks are not present and not visible, so how can one expect to be liberated by seeing these as things, or seeing the absence of things, or seeing things and the absence of things? What is the reason for this? Venerable Blessed One, it is because afflictions are signs. What are the signs? Form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharmas are signs, Venerable Blessed One, whatever afflictions are, that is not liberated. The Blessed One said: Sharadvatiputra, well done, well done! You have spoken that word well. Sharadvatiputra, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is the father of wisdom...
