Chapter Eighty-Six: The Chapter on Dharma Victory Chapter Eighty-Six: The Chapter on Dharma Victory Having spoken thus, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Dharma Victory said this to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Ever Weeping: "Son of good family, the Tathagatas have not come from anywhere, nor have they gone anywhere; they have not moved from Suchness. Whatever is Suchness, that is the Tathagata. Son of good family, there is no coming or going in the unborn; whatever is unborn, that is the Tathagata. Son of good family, there is no coming or going in the ultimate reality; whatever is the ultimate reality, that is the Tathagata. Son of good family, there is no coming or going in emptiness; whatever is emptiness, that is the Tathagata. Son of good family, there is no coming or going in thusness; whatever is thusness, that is the Tathagata. Son of good family, there is no coming or going in detachment from desire; whatever is detachment from desire, that is the Tathagata. Son of good family, there is no coming or going in cessation; whatever is cessation, that is the Tathagata. Son of good family, there is no coming or going in the realm of space; whatever is the realm of space, that is the Tathagata. Son of good family, the Tathagata is not separate from these dharmas; son of good family, whatever is the Suchness of these dharmas, and whatever is the Suchness of the Tathagata, that is one Suchness; son of good family, Suchness cannot be divided into two. Son of good family, Suchness is one; for example, because it does not exist, it transcends being counted as two or three. Son of good family, for example: Just as a person scorched by the sun, in the last month of summer, when the time of noon arrives, sees a mirage shimmering, and runs there saying he will drink water, son of good family, what do you think? Where does that water come from? Where does it go? Does that water go to the eastern ocean, or the southern ocean, or the western ocean, or the northern ocean?" Ever Weeping said: "Son of good family, if there is no water in a mirage, how can there be coming or going? Son of good family, a person scorched by the sun!"

, is one who has the nature of a child, one who has immature wisdom. Seeing a mirage, they generate the concept of water in a place where there is no water, but water does not exist there by its very nature. Dharmottara said: Noble son, it is just so, it is just so. Similarly, noble son, whoever clings to the form or sound of the Tathagata thinks that the Tathagata comes and goes. Whoever thinks that the Tathagata comes and goes is called one who has the nature of a child, one who has immature wisdom, just like that person who generates the concept of water in a place where there is no water. Why is that? Because the Tathagata is not seen as a form body, the Tathagata is the Dharma body. Noble son, the nature of Dharma has no coming or going, noble son, similarly, the Tathagatas have no coming or going. Noble son, for example, a collection of elephants, a collection of horses, a collection of chariots, or a small army conjured up by illusion have no coming or going. Noble son, similarly, the body of the Tathagata has no coming or going. Noble son, for example, a person who is asleep dreams of one, two, three, four, five, ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, or more Tathagatas, and upon waking up, does not see even one Tathagata. Noble son, what do you think? Where did those Tathagatas come from? Where did they go? Sadāprarudita said: Noble son, no Dharma is established in a dream. A dream is false, it is not real. Dharmottara said: Noble son, it is just so, all Dharmas are said by the Tathagata to be like a dream. Thus he spoke. Noble son, whoever does not understand that all Dharmas are taught by the Tathagata to be as real as a dream, clings to the body of name and form and the form body. Thus, because they do not understand the nature of Dharma, they think that the Tathagata comes and goes. Whoever thinks that the Tathagata comes and goes
