The Seventh Chapter, Twelfth: Showing the Absence of Characteristics. The Seventh Chapter, Twelfth: Showing the Absence of Characteristics. Then, the venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: "Lord, how does a Bodhisattva, with regard to dharmas that are without characteristics, without effort, without contamination, and empty of their own nature, practice the six perfections—the perfection of generosity, the perfection of discipline, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom—how does one perfect their cultivation? How does one make distinctions among these uncontaminated dharmas? How are these distinguished from each other? How is the perfection of generosity included within the perfection of wisdom? How are the perfections of discipline, patience, diligence, and meditation included within the perfection of wisdom? Lord, how can one make distinctions and establish differences among these dharmas that are without characteristics, in this way, as they are without characteristics and of a single nature?" After he had spoken thus, the Blessed One said to the venerable Subhuti: "Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva, a great being, who practices the Perfection of Wisdom, abides in the five aggregates, which are like a dream, and gives generosity, keeps discipline, cultivates patience, exerts diligence, enters into all meditations, and cultivates wisdom. Abiding in the five aggregates, which are like a pillar of rock, he gives generosity, keeps discipline, cultivates patience, exerts diligence, enters into meditation, and cultivates wisdom. Abiding in the five aggregates, which are like an optical illusion, like a mirage, like a magic trick, like an apparition, he gives generosity, keeps discipline, cultivates patience, exerts diligence,

He enters into samadhi and cultivates wisdom. These five skandhas are like a dream, without characteristics. These five skandhas are like an echo, an eye disease, a mirage, an illusion, and an emanation, without characteristics. Why? Because a dream has no essence whatsoever, and an echo, an eye disease, a mirage, an illusion, and an emanation have no essence whatsoever. Whatever has no essence has no characteristics. Whatever has no characteristics, in this way, non-characteristic is the one characteristic. Subhuti, therefore, you should also understand in this way the absence of characteristics of giving, the absence of characteristics of the giver, and the absence of characteristics of the receiver. Whoever understands in this way and gives alms, he perfects the perfection of giving. If he perfects the perfection of giving, he will not deviate from the perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom. Abiding in these six perfections, he perfects the four dhyanas. He perfects the four immeasurables. He perfects the four formless absorptions. He perfects the four mindfulnesses. He perfects the four right abandonments. He perfects the four miraculous feet, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven branches of enlightenment, the eightfold noble path, and emptiness of the interior, and likewise, he perfects up to the emptiness of self-nature. He perfects the samadhi of emptiness, the samadhi of signlessness, and the samadhi of wishlessness. He perfects the eight liberations, the nine sequential abidings, and the five superknowledges. He perfects five hundred doors of dharani. He...

The ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha are all perfected. He abides in these noble, uncontaminated dharmas arising from maturation, and through miraculous power, he goes to the pure Buddhafields of the eastern direction, attending to and honoring the Buddhas, the Bhagavat. He also serves those Buddhas, the Bhagavat. There, he also benefits sentient beings with enjoyments. There, those sentient beings who are to be gathered by generosity, he gathers by generosity. Those who are to be gathered by ethics, he gathers by ethics. Those who are to be gathered by patience, he gathers by patience. Those who are to be gathered by diligence, he gathers by diligence. Those who are to be gathered by meditative concentration, he gathers by meditative concentration. Those who are to be gathered by wisdom, he gathers by wisdom. Those who are to be gathered by all virtuous dharmas, he gathers by all virtuous dharmas. Endowed with those virtuous dharmas, he also takes rebirth in samsara, but he is not defiled by the sufferings that exist in samsara. For the sake of sentient beings, he also holds the perfections of gods and humans, and with those perfections, he benefits those sentient beings. By realizing the signless dharmas, he also knows the fruit of stream-enterer, but he does not abide in that fruit. He also knows the fruit of once-returner, but he does not abide in that fruit. He also knows the fruit of non-returner, but he does not abide in that fruit. He also knows arhatship, but he does not abide in that fruit. He also knows self-awakening, but he does not abide in that fruit. Why is that? Like this, he needs to realize everything and attain the all-knowingness that is not shared by all Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. Subhuti, in that way, after a Bodhisattva Mahasattva realizes all dharmas as signless,
