If a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is without deceit and without delusion, then, this Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, like this, in order to protect all sentient beings, in order not to completely abandon all sentient beings. Abiding like this, it should be known that this is abiding, and also abiding in a way that is not abiding. This Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, like this, should be known to be inseparable from the attention to great compassion. Shariputra said: Venerable Subhuti, if like this, abiding without being separated from the attention to the attention to great compassion, it is thought that the one abiding in this is a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, then, Venerable Subhuti, in that case, all sentient beings will also become Bodhisattvas. What is the reason for this? Venerable Subhuti, like this, all sentient beings are inseparable from attention. Subhuti said: Venerable Shariputra, well said! Well said! Venerable Shariputra, by speaking the correct words, has completely grasped that meaning, Venerable Shariputra, it is fitting. What is the reason for this? Venerable Shariputra, because there are no sentient beings, it should be known that there is no attention. Because sentient beings are emptiness, it should be known that attention is emptiness. Because sentient beings are peaceful, it should be known that attention is peaceful. Because sentient beings are without self-nature, it should be known that attention is without self-nature. Because there are no sentient beings who realize enlightenment, it should be known that there is no attention that realizes enlightenment. Venerable Shariputra, because form does not exist, it should be known that there is no attention. Because form is emptiness, it should be known that attention is emptiness. Because form is peacefulness, it should be known that attention is peacefulness. Because form is without self-nature, it should be known that attention is without self-nature. Because form does not realize enlightenment, it should be known that there is no attention that realizes enlightenment. Similarly, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness also...

Because consciousness does not exist, it should be known that mental engagement does not exist. Because consciousness is emptiness, it should be known that mental engagement is emptiness. Because consciousness is serenity, it should be known that mental engagement is serenity. Because consciousness is without intrinsic nature, it should be known that mental engagement is without intrinsic nature. Because consciousness is without perfect enlightenment, it should be known that mental engagement is without perfect enlightenment. Similarly, because the elements, the sources, dependent arising, the truths, the aspects of enlightenment, the perfections, all emptinesses, all samadhis, all dharani gates, and even all-knowingness do not exist, it should be known that mental engagement does not exist. Similarly, because all-knowingness is emptiness, all-knowingness is serenity, all-knowingness is without intrinsic nature, and all-knowingness is without perfect enlightenment, it should be known that mental engagement is without perfect enlightenment. Shariputra, therefore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not depart from this dwelling and this mental engagement. Thus I speak. Then, the Blessed One praised the Venerable Subhuti, saying: Subhuti, well done! Well done! By the power of the Tathagata, as you have taught, the Prajnaparamita should also be taught to the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas. The Bodhisattva Mahasattvas should also learn the Prajnaparamita as you have taught. When the Venerable Subhuti taught this chapter of the Prajnaparamita, this realm of the three-thousand great-thousand world system shook in six ways: it shook, it shook greatly, it shook universally and greatly. It moved, it moved greatly, it moved universally and greatly. It trembled, it trembled greatly, it trembled universally and greatly. It stirred, it stirred greatly, it stirred universally and greatly. It roared, it roared greatly, it roared universally.

Ur ro! Chem chem! Rabtu chem chem! Kuntu rabtu chem chem mo! If the east is low, the west is high. If the west is low, the east is high. If the south is low, the north is high. If the north is low, the south is high. If the center is low, the periphery is high. If the periphery is low, the center becomes high. Then, at that time, the Blessed One smiled. Then the venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, what is the cause of your smiling? What is the reason?" The Blessed One said: "Subhuti, just as the Perfection of Wisdom is taught in this Sahā world, so too in the immeasurable and countless world systems of the east, the Tathāgatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones, teach this Perfection of Wisdom to the Bodhisattvas, the great beings. Likewise, in the immeasurable and countless world systems of all ten directions, the Tathāgatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones, teach this Perfection of Wisdom to the Bodhisattvas, the great beings." When the venerable Subhuti taught this exposition of the Perfection of Wisdom, two hundred million beings from among gods and humans attained the acceptance of the Dharma of non-arising. In all the world systems of the ten directions, when those Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, teach this Perfection of Wisdom to the Bodhisattvas, the great beings, immeasurable and countless sentient beings generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. From the Holy Perfection of Wisdom in Eight Thousand Lines, the mother of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, this is called the Chapter of the Elder Subhuti, the twenty-first. The twenty-first chapter, the Chapter of the Elder Subhuti.
