Chapter 20: The Chapter on Non-Duality Chapter 20: The Chapter on Non-Duality The Eight Thousand Verse Prajñāpāramitā, Volume Sixteen. Then, the venerable Maitreya's son Jangpo addressed the Blessed One, saying: "Blessed One, this venerable Subhuti has been encouraged by the Tathāgata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, for the sake of the Prajñāpāramitā. This one intends to teach the Mahāyāna." Then, the venerable Subhuti addressed the Blessed One, saying: "Blessed One, is the Mahāyāna that I teach contrary to the Prajñāpāramitā, or has it not become one?" The Blessed One replied: "Subhuti, it is not so. Subhuti, the Mahāyāna that you teach is in accordance with the Prajñāpāramitā. Why is that? Subhuti, for example, all the Dharmas of the Śrāvakas, or the Dharmas of the Pratyekabuddhas, or the Dharmas of the Bodhisattvas, or the Dharmas of the Buddhas, or any virtuous Dharma, all of these are included within the Prajñāpāramitā and are completely inclined towards it." Subhuti inquired: "Blessed One, which Dharmas of the Śrāvakas, the Dharmas of the Pratyekabuddhas, the Dharmas of the Bodhisattvas, and the Dharmas of the Buddhas are included within the Prajñāpāramitā and completely inclined towards it as virtuous Dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment?" The Blessed One replied: "Subhuti, for example, the four mindfulnesses, the four right abandonments, the four legs of magical power, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven branches of enlightenment, the noble eightfold path, and the doors of liberation of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, the four dhyānas, the four immeasurables, the four formless attainments, the perfection of generosity, the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, the perfection of wisdom, the ten powers of the Tathāgata, and the four fearlessnesses.

Whatever the Vinaya spoken by the Blessed One, whatever the realm of Dharma, whatever Suchness, whatever the ultimate reality, whatever the inconceivable realm, whatever Nirvana, all those dharmas are neither existent nor non-existent, formless, unteachable, unimpeded. Thus, being of one characteristic, which is no characteristic. Subhuti, by that designation, you are one who teaches the Great Vehicle in accordance with the Perfection of Wisdom. Why is that? Subhuti, the Great Vehicle is also other, the Perfection of Wisdom is also other. The Perfection of Dhyana, the Perfection of Virya, the Perfection of Kshanti, the Perfection of Shila, the Perfection of Dana are also other. The Great Vehicle is also other. The Four Mindfulnesses are also other, and the Great Vehicle is not other. Thus, the Great Vehicle and the Four Mindfulnesses are indivisible and inseparable. The Great Vehicle is also other, and the eighteen unmixed dharmas of the Buddhas up to (here) are also not other. Thus, the Great Vehicle and those Buddhadharmas are indivisible and inseparable. Subhuti, therefore, teaching the Great Vehicle is equivalent to teaching the Perfection of Wisdom. Teaching the Perfection of Wisdom is equivalent to teaching the Great Vehicle. Then, the Venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, in this way also, a Bodhisattva does not adhere to the past extreme. A Bodhisattva does not adhere to the future extreme. A Bodhisattva does not adhere to the middle. Blessed One, because form is without limit, I understand that a Bodhisattva is without limit. Because feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are without limit, I understand that a Bodhisattva is without limit. Blessed One, the so-called form is a Bodhisattva, such a (Bodhisattva) does not exist and is not visible. Feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are Bo
