Unapprehendable. Also, the space between the knower and the seer is unapprehendable. Because of being utterly pure, the aggregates, elements, sense-bases, and dependent origination are unapprehendable. Because of being utterly pure, suffering is unapprehendable. Because of being utterly pure, origination, cessation, and the path are unapprehendable. Because of being utterly pure, the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm are unapprehendable. Because of being utterly pure, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment are unapprehendable. Because of being utterly pure, even the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha are unapprehendable. Because of being utterly pure, stream-enterer is unapprehendable. Because of being utterly pure, once-returner, non-returner, arhatship itself, and solitary buddha are unapprehendable. Because of being utterly pure, even the space between bodhisattva, enlightenment, and buddha is unapprehendable. Shariputra asked: Blessed One, what is purity? The Blessed One replied: Shariputra, the non-arising and non-ceasing of all dharmas, the absence of defilement and the absence of purification, the absence of coming forth and the absence of object, the absence of manifest activity, this is called purity. Shariputra asked: Blessed One, what dharmas does a bodhisattva mahasattva who thus trains, train in? The Blessed One replied: Shariputra, a bodhisattva mahasattva who thus trains does not train in any dharma. Why is that? Shariputra, these dharmas are not present in the way that childish ordinary beings are attached to them. Shariputra asked: Blessed One, how are these dharmas present? The Blessed One replied: Shariputra, they are present as non-existent, and because they are not present in that way, they are called ignorance. Shariputra asked: Blessed One, why is what is not present called ignorance? The Blessed One replied: Shariputra, inner emptiness and the emptiness of the nature of non-things.

Because of the space between inner emptiness and the emptiness of the nature of non-things, form does not exist. Feelings, perceptions, formations, and consciousness do not exist. Because of the space between inner emptiness and the emptiness of the nature of non-things, realms, sources, dependent origination, and perfections do not exist. Because of the space between inner emptiness and the emptiness of the nature of non-things, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment do not exist. Because of the space between inner emptiness and the emptiness of the nature of non-things, even the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha do not exist. Therefore, those foolish children who are attached to ignorance and craving, they examine what does not exist and cling to what does not exist. For example, they are attached to the two extremes of permanence and annihilation, and therefore, they are unknowing and unseeing. They completely examine those dharmas that do not exist, clinging to name and form, clinging to mindfulness, and even clinging to the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha. Because they cling in this way, they speculate about dharmas that do not exist, and they are unknowing and unseeing. What is unknowing and unseeing? Form is unknowing and unseeing. Feelings, perceptions, formations, and consciousness are unknowing and unseeing. Realms, sources, dependent origination, and the factors of enlightenment are unknowing and unseeing. The eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha are unknowing and unseeing, and therefore, they are counted as foolish children. They are not liberated. From where are they not liberated? They are not liberated from the desire realm. They are not liberated from the form realm. They are not liberated from the formless realm. They are not liberated from the dharmas of the hearers and solitary Buddhas. They are unbelieving. What do they not believe in? Form does not believe in form.

From not believing in "emptiness" onwards, up to and including the point where enlightenment is empty of enlightenment, they are unbelieving. Those are not abiding. What do they not abide in? They do not abide in the perfection of generosity. They do not abide in the perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom. They do not abide in the stage of non-retrogression. They do not abide among the dharmas of the Buddhas, therefore they are called children. Those are attached. What are they attached to? They are attached to form. They are attached to feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness. They are attached to the eye. They are attached to the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind. They are attached to form. They are attached to sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharmas. They are attached to the aggregates, elements, and sense bases. They are attached to desire, hatred, and delusion. They are attached to views. They are attached up to and including enlightenment, therefore they are counted among those called children. Shariputra asked: World Honored One, is it the case that a bodhisattva mahasattva who is learning in this way is not learning the perfection of wisdom, and will definitely not attain omniscience? The World Honored One replied: Shariputra, it is the case that a bodhisattva mahasattva who is learning in this way is not learning the perfection of wisdom, and will definitely not attain omniscience. Shariputra asked: World Honored One, why is it that that bodhisattva mahasattva is not learning the perfection of wisdom, and will definitely not attain omniscience? The World Honored One replied: Shariputra, here, a bodhisattva mahasattva, being unskilled in means, relies on the perfection of wisdom, and manifests
