Chapter Seventy-Three. Chapter Seventy-Three. The Twenty-Five Thousand Verse Perfection of Wisdom, Volume Seventy-Seven. Then, the Blessed One said to the venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, a son of good family or a daughter of good family who wishes to seek this Perfection of Wisdom should, like the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Sadāprarudita, seek the conduct of purity in the presence of the Tathāgata, Arhat, Samyaksaṃbuddha who proclaims inexhaustible sounds, just as he sought. After he had spoken, the venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, how did the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Sadāprarudita seek this Perfection of Wisdom? After he had spoken, the Blessed One said to the venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, when the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Sadāprarudita sought the Perfection of Wisdom in the past, he sought it without regard for his body, without regard for his life, and without dwelling on gain, respect, and fame. When he was seeking the Perfection of Wisdom, while dwelling in a solitary place, a voice from the sky said: Son of good family, go to the east, and from there you will hear the Perfection of Wisdom. By all means, do not give rise to the thought of bodily fatigue, do not give rise to the thought of drowsiness and sleep, do not give rise to the thought of food, do not give rise to the thought of thirst, do not give rise to the thought of night, do not give rise to the thought of day, do not give rise to the thought of cold, do not give rise to the thought of heat, go in that way. Do not focus your mind on anything external or internal. Son of good family, do not look to the left and do not go, do not look to the right. Do not look and walk towards the west and the north, and upwards, downwards, and to the boundaries. Son of good family, by all means, do not waver in the view of the perishable aggregate, do not waver in form, and in feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, go in that way.

It dwells in contradiction. From what does it dwell in contradiction? It dwells in contradiction from the Buddhas' teachings. Whoever dwells in contradiction from all the Buddhas' teachings, that one acts in samsara. Whoever acts in samsara, that one will not find the Perfection of Wisdom, so a voice was heard saying. After that voice spoke thus, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Ever Weeping answered that voice thus: So be it. Why is that? Because I wish to make light for all sentient beings, and I wish to accomplish the Buddhas' teachings. After speaking thus, that voice spoke thus to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Ever Weeping: Son of the lineage of Ever Weeping, well done! Well done! Then again, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Ever Weeping said: You should generate faith in the Buddhas' teachings of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, and you should seek the Perfection of Wisdom. You should abandon signs, abandon things, and you should abandon the view of sentient beings. Son of the lineage, you should abandon evil friends. You should attend, serve, and revere the virtuous spiritual friends who teach the Dharma of emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, non-fabrication, unborn, unarisen, non-thing, and non-cessation. Son of the lineage, if you do so, you will soon hear the Perfection of Wisdom from a book or a Dharma-speaking monk. Son of the lineage, you should generate the perception of a teacher towards the one from whom you hear the Perfection of Wisdom. You should be grateful and remember the kindness. This is my virtuous spiritual friend, from whom I heard the Perfection of Wisdom. After hearing it, one will quickly become irreversible from unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment, and one will become close to the Tathagatas, Arhats, perfect and complete Buddhas, and one will be born in a Buddha-field that is inseparable from the Tathagatas.

Those who are not free will be abandoned, and will possess leisure and endowment. Son of lineage, you should fully examine these benefits and generate the perception of showing the Dharma-speaking monk as a teacher. Son of lineage, you should not attend to the Dharma-speaking monk with a mind filled with worldly distractions. You should strive for the sake of the Dharma, and follow the Dharma-speaking monk with respect for the Dharma. You should also know the works of the demons, son of lineage. The evil demon also brings forms, sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile objects for the sake of attending, serving, and enjoying the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas. They also subdue them with power, and skillfully attend, serve, and enjoy them separately. In that case, son of lineage, you should not generate a mind of disbelief in the Dharma speaker, but generate this mind: I do not fully understand that skillful means, but this one fully understands with skillful means. This is in order to fully grasp the roots of virtue of sentient beings by means of the behavior of sentient beings, and to separately attend, serve, and practice these dharmas. Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas have no attachment or obscuration to anything. At that time, son of lineage, you should also examine the true nature of the dharmas separately. Son of lineage, what is the true nature of the dharmas? It is like this: all dharmas are without complete affliction and without complete purification. Why is that? Because all dharmas are empty by their very nature. All dharmas are without sentient beings, without life, without person, like illusions, like dreams, like echoes, like reflections. Son of lineage, if you thus separately realize the true nature of the dharmas and follow the Dharma speaker, you will soon arise from the Perfection of Wisdom. Son of lineage, you should also know other works of the demons. Son of lineage, if the Dharma speaker scolds and does not look at the son of lineage who desires the Perfection of Wisdom, then, son of lineage, you should not despise him again, but...
