By clinging to that, they cling to existence. Because they have fully investigated non-existence, they cling to non-existence, just as they are attached to the two extremes of annihilation and permanence. They do not know or see, having fully investigated those non-existent dharmas. They cling to name and form, they cling to those mindfulnesses, and they cling to the distinctions of the Buddha's unmixed dharmas. Because they cling in that way, they fully contemplate those non-existent dharmas, and they do not know or see them. What do they not know or see? They do not know or see form. They do not know or see feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness. They do not know or see the sense bases, the realms, and dependent origination. They do not know or see the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment. They do not know or see the distinctions of the Buddha's unmixed dharmas. Thus, they enter into the category called "children," and they do not arise. From where do they not arise? They do not arise from the desire realm. They do not arise from the form realm. They do not arise from the formless realm. They do not arise from the grounds of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. They are unbelieving. How do they not believe? They do not believe that form is empty of form. Up to enlightenment, they do not believe that enlightenment is empty of enlightenment. They are not abiding. How are they not abiding? They do not abide in the perfection of generosity. They do not abide in the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom. They do not abide in the irreversible ground. They do not abide in the distinctions of the Buddha's unmixed dharmas. They are not clinging. How are they clinging? They are clinging to form. They are clinging to feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness. They are clinging to the eye. They are clinging to the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind.

is attachment. There is attachment to the sense bases, elements, and dependent origination. There is attachment to desire, hatred, and ignorance. There is attachment to things that have become views. There is attachment even up to enlightenment. Therefore, they are called children. The questioner: Blessed One, do bodhisattvas, great beings, who study in this way, not study the Perfection of Wisdom, and will they not attain perfect omniscience? The Blessed One said: Sharadvatiputra, bodhisattvas, great beings, who study in this way, do not study the Perfection of Wisdom, and they will not attain perfect omniscience. The questioner: Blessed One, for what reason do bodhisattvas not study the Perfection of Wisdom, and will they not attain perfect omniscience? The Blessed One said: Sharadvatiputra, here, bodhisattvas, great beings, because they are unskilled in means, if they examine and are attached to the Perfection of Wisdom, if they examine and are attached to the Perfection of Meditation, the Perfection of Diligence, the Perfection of Patience, the Perfection of Ethics, and the Perfection of Giving, if they examine and are attached to all emptinesses, the mindfulnesses, the right abandonments, the miraculous feet, the faculties, the powers, the branches of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path, if they examine and are attached to the noble truths, the meditations, the immeasurables, the formless absorptions, the eight liberations, the nine progressive abidings, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, the superknowledges, the samadhis, the doors of dharani, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, if they examine and are attached even up to perfect omniscience. Sharadvatiputra.

In that case, that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not train in the Perfection of Wisdom, and will not attain Omniscience. Asked: Blessed One, if that is so, in what way does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva train in the Perfection of Wisdom? How does one train to attain Omniscience? The Blessed One said: Sharadvatiputra, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva engages in the Perfection of Wisdom, he does not fixate on the Perfection of Wisdom, nor does he truly see it accordingly. Sharadvatiputra, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva engages in the Perfection of Wisdom in this way, he attains Omniscience in a manner of non-fixation. When engaging in the Perfection of Concentration, the Perfection of Diligence, the Perfection of Patience, the Perfection of Discipline, and the Perfection of Generosity, he does not fixate on the Perfection of Generosity, nor does he truly see it accordingly. Even when engaging in Omniscience, he does not fixate on Omniscience, nor does he truly see it accordingly. Sharadvatiputra, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva trains in the Perfection of Wisdom in this way, he attains Omniscience in a manner of non-fixation. Sharadvatiputra, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva engages in the Perfection of Wisdom in this way, and trains in the Perfection of Wisdom in this way, he attains Omniscience in a manner of non-fixation. Asked: Blessed One, in what manner of non-fixation does one attain Omniscience? The Blessed One said: One should understand that Omniscience is attained through the manner of non-fixation on emptiness of the internal, up to the manner of non-fixation on the emptiness of the nature of non-things.
