If Subhuti, someone emanates an emanation, is there anything in that emanation that is not emptiness? World Honored One, no. There is nothing in that emanation that is not emptiness. What is emptiness and what is emanation, these two dharmas are neither united nor separated, because they are both empty by emptiness. Why then do you make a distinction by saying, "This is emptiness, this is emanation"? This is because both emptiness and emanation do not aim at emptiness. The World Honored One said: Subhuti, among form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, is there anything that is not an emanation? Whatever is an emanation is emptiness. Subhuti, if worldly dharmas are emanations, then are supramundane dharmas, such as the four mindfulnesses, the four right exertions, the four legs of magical power, the five roots, the five powers, the seven branches of enlightenment, the eightfold noble path, the three doors of liberation, the four noble truths, all emptiness, the eight liberations, the nine successive abidings, all samadhis, all dharani gates, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great loving-kindness, great compassion, the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, and the fruits thereof by which one distinguishes individuals such as stream-enterers, once-returners, non-returners, arhats, solitary buddhas, and Tathagatas, arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas, also emanations? The World Honored One said: Subhuti, all dharmas are emanations. Some of them are emanations of sravakas, some are emanations of pratyekabuddhas, some are emanations of bodhisattvas, some are emanations of tathagatas, and some are emanations of afflictions.

Are emanations. Some are emanations by karma. Subhuti, therefore, all dharmas are emanations. He asked: Blessed One, what is meant by abandonment? Is it the fruit of a stream-enterer, or the fruit of a once-returner, or the fruit of a non-returner, or an Arhat, or the ground of a Pratyekabuddha, or the ground of a Buddha? Are all those dharmas that have abandoned all habitual connections also emanations? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, whatever dharma is produced or ceased, all of that is an emanation. He asked: Blessed One, what is that which is not an emanation? The Blessed One said: Whatever dharma has neither arising nor ceasing, that is not an emanation. He asked: What is that? The Blessed One said: Unequaled Nirvana, that dharma is not an emanation. He asked: Blessed One, you have said, 'It does not waver from emptiness, nor does it perceive duality, and there is no dharma that is not emptiness.' As you have said, Blessed One, will unequaled Nirvana also become an emanation? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, it is just so. It is just so, Subhuti, all dharmas are emptiness. These are not made by the Shravakas, not made by the Pratyekabuddhas, not made by the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, not made by the Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha. That which is emptiness by its very nature is Nirvana. Subhuti asked: Blessed One, if a beginner wishes to fully understand emptiness by its very nature, how should he be shown by means of analogies? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, is there such a thing as something existing before and then later becoming non-existent? Subhuti, here there is neither something existing nor something non-existent, neither self-nature nor other-nature. So, what is there to be fully understood as emptiness of self-nature?
