Chapter One: The Yoga of Ultimate Meaning Chapter One: The Yoga of Ultimate Meaning Then, the venerable Subhuti addressed the Blessed One, saying: "Blessed One, in seeing what is true, there is neither complete affliction nor complete purification; likewise, in not seeing what is true, there is neither complete affliction nor complete purification, because all dharmas are of the nature of non-things. Blessed One, in non-things, there is neither complete affliction nor complete purification. Blessed One, in self-nature, there is neither complete affliction nor complete purification; in the self-nature of non-things, there is neither complete affliction nor complete purification. Blessed One, what is the nature of the complete purification that you have spoken of?" The Blessed One replied: "Subhuti, the equality of all dharmas is what I have spoken of as complete purification." He asked: "Blessed One, what is the equality of all dharmas?" The Blessed One replied: "Suchness, and non-erroneous suchness, and non-other suchness, and the nature of dharma, and the nature of the realm of dharma, and the abiding nature of dharma, and the faultless nature of dharma, and the ultimate limit of truth. Whether the Tathagatas appear or not, the abiding nature of dharma remains as such, and this realm. This so-called realm of dharma, Subhuti, is complete purification. It is spoken of in terms of worldly conventions, but it is unspeakable and unutterable, a dharma that transcends the path of all sounds and words." He asked: "Blessed One, if all dharmas are like dreams, like echoes, like mirages, like illusions, like magic, like transformations, how can a Bodhisattva Mahasattva regard all dharmas as like dreams, all dharmas as like echoes, all dharmas as like mirages, all dharmas as like illusions, all dharmas as like magic, all dharmas as like transformations, without substance, without essence, and perfect the perfection of generosity?

Thus, one generates the mind for unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, what do you think? Are those dharmas you speak of like dreams? Like reflections? Like mirages? Like phantoms? Like illusions? Like apparitions? He replied: Bhagavan, if those dharmas are like dreams, like reflections, like mirages, like phantoms, like illusions, like apparitions, how can a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practice the Prajnaparamita? Bhagavan, dreams are not real. Reflections are not real. Mirages are not real. Phantoms are not real. Illusions are not real. Apparitions are not real. Bhagavan, because they are not real, how does one practice the Paramita of Generosity, practice the Paramita of Discipline, practice the Paramita of Patience, practice the Paramita of Diligence?
