There are the limbs of enlightenment. There is the Noble Eightfold Path. There are the Noble Truths. There are the meditations. There are the immeasurables. There are the formless absorptions. There are the eight liberations. There are the nine successive abidings in meditative equipoise. There are the doors to liberation: emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. There are the superknowledges. There are the samādhis. There are the doors to the ground. There are the powers of the Thus-Gone One. There are the fearlessnesses. There are the individual correct knowledges. There is great compassion. There are the unmixed qualities of a Buddha. There is the fruit of stream-entry. There is the fruit of once-returning. There is the fruit of non-returning. There is arhatship. There is self-awakening. There is knowledge of the aspects of the path. There is knowledge of all aspects. There are stream-enterers. There are once-returners. There are non-returners. There are arhats. There are solitary Buddhas. There are bodhisattva great beings. There are the Thus-Gone Ones, the Arhats, the perfectly and completely awakened Buddhas. Kauśika, what do you think? If a son or daughter of good family were to place as many sentient beings as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River in the world-systems of the lower direction into the four concentrations, the four immeasurables, the four formless absorptions, and the five superknowledges, would the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly because of that? He replied, "Bhagavan, it would increase greatly. Sugata, it would increase greatly." The Bhagavan said, "Kauśika, more than that, if a son or daughter of good family were to give others this book of the Perfection of Wisdom for the sake of reading, writing, and reciting it, their merit would increase even more. Why is that? Kauśika, in this Perfection of Wisdom, the undefiled dharmas are extensively taught in this way, and one should train in them.
