When that monk returned, he saw that other food had been poured on top of the alms food, and he was doubtful and did not eat it. The monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said, "If someone gives it, accept it and eat it! If no one gives it, pour away the food on top and eat it without hesitation!" Another monk begged for alms, placed it in his dwelling, and then went outside. He saw a householder touch it, and the monk was doubtful and did not eat it. The monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said, "Ask that householder why he touched it? If he says, 'I touched it to remove weeds,' accept it and eat it! If he says, 'I touched it because of desire,' then also give half to the robe, accept it, and eat it without hesitation!" The Blessed One said, "Monks, carry provisions!" Because there were no householders or novices, the monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said, "Make the donor happy! If there is no donor, take it back yourself, and then eat it with the householder! If there is nothing there, divide it into two portions and give one to the householder.
