Explanation of the Second Chapter on Solitude. Explanation of the Second Chapter on Solitude. In brief, both the bowl and the monastic robe, as well as Kosala and Sarpa, similarly, proclamation and various monastic robes, and also the nuns together, are mentioned in the sutra that is summarized at the end. In short, the bowl and utensils, the monastery, guests, many robbed clothes, clothes and umbrellas, as well as trees, cemetery dwellers, and grass. The Buddha Bhagavan was residing in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. At that time, another householder built a monastery with all the necessary items in another village in the mountains and offered it to the Sangha of the four directions. There, mattresses and utensils became abundant, but the monks were few. Some of them said, "Venerable ones, if we do not use the mattresses, utensils, and equipment, they will be wasted. Let us keep as much as we need from them and donate the rest to other monasteries." And they did so. When another almsman, using old utensils, came to that monastery, those monks let him rest, and he was also one of the elders among those Sangha members. After resting from the journey in the monastery, he said to them, "Venerable ones, do you have mattresses?" They replied, "No." The monks explained the situation in detail. He lay down on the ground without bedding and got up early the next morning. Taking a crooked key, he went to the householder's house. Then, the householder greeted him, saying, "Welcome," and came out with a mat. The almsman sat in a peaceful manner. The almsman also spoke to him about the merits of the seven objects of merit made with wealth. The householder said, "Venerable one, I have done all that." The almsman said, "Householder, are there no mattresses in your monastery? Last night, I also lay down on the ground without bedding and came here. Don't you know that?"

Saying, "I have done everything like that." (The monks) asked, "What is wrong with this?" The householder said, "Venerable saints, I have often offered beds, utensils, and implements there, but those saints sent them to other temples without using them." (The monks) asked, "Householder, do you know the key to the temple? Do you know what the key looks like?" The householder replied, "Venerable saints, I know very well." (The monks) showed him the key, and (the householder) said, "Venerable saints, please go, I will go with you." After they had begged for alms, the householder also followed, and (the monks) gathered the monks together, and (the householder) said, "Venerable saints, I have offered many beds, utensils, and implements here, where are they now?" (The monks) told the householder everything that had happened, and the householder blamed their fault, saying, "You have done wrong. Since it is there, can it be taken back now? Or can it not be taken back?" They replied, "It cannot be taken back." The householder said, "Venerable saints, I did not offer it there, let's go and take it back." The monks reported this matter to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed, "Do not send it to other temples, it should be used according to its original purpose. If it is sent to other places, compensate the donor according to its value." This happened in Shravasti. The group of six monks used the garden together with many guests, and they either urinated or defecated in front of the guests, or behind them, because they were afraid of feces and dust. Later, many guests were robbed by thieves, and many people abandoned their belongings and fled. The thieves could not take all the belongings, so they chose the good ones and took them away. The group of six monks followed many guests to that place, and saw many abandoned belongings, and then Kaludayi said, "Happy! Near joy! We can pick up these discarded rags." They picked out clothes from those belongings and took them away. Many guests returned with sticks and guards, and recognized the things taken away by the group of six monks, which were the things abandoned by the thieves.
