Explanation of the Second Door of Discussion. Explanation of the Second Door of Discussion. In brief, it is admonition and reiteration, and what is not laid out is the same. Giving the precepts, and acting, what should be endured and expelled, and the manner of being equal to the Dharma. Cutting off when the wall is broken, this is the second of the collected Sutras. In short, admonition, asking questions and answering, a monk who has passed away. If in Shravasti, there is dispute, the two Sanghas and Dharma robes. The Buddha Bhagavan was dwelling in Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. In Shravasti, there was another householder who took a wife from the same lineage, and he enjoyed playing and rejoicing with her. As he played and rejoiced, his wife became pregnant. After eight or nine months, she gave birth to a son. For twenty-one days, they held a great celebration of the birth, and named him according to his lineage. Later, he renounced in the teachings of the Bhagavan. Later, he was struck by illness and passed away. The monks threw his alms bowl and Dharma robes together in the charnel ground, which was seen by Brahmins and householders who happened to pass by. They whispered to each other, saying: Alas, we householders, dwelling in our homes, accumulate wealth through various means, yet we do not discard our utensils and clothes. These Shakyaputra ascetics, crossing a hundred thresholds, laboriously beg for food, why do they discard the alms bowl and Dharma robes? At that time, the monks also came from in front of them. They said to those people: Noble ones, we householders, dwelling in our homes, accumulate wealth through various means, yet we do not discard our utensils and clothes. You cross a hundred thresholds, laboriously beg for food, from where do the alms bowl and Dharma robes come? Why did you throw this monk's alms bowl and Dharma robes together in the charnel ground? They replied: The Bhagavan did not allow it.

After saying "Yes," they left without saying anything. After things turned out this way, he spoke to the monks, and the monks reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One instructed: Do not abandon the alms bowl and Dharma robes. After the Blessed One said not to abandon the alms bowl and Dharma robes, the monks abandoned them naked. The Blessed One instructed: Do not abandon them naked, but wrap them in a lower skirt and a sweat cloth before abandoning them. Then, the monks abandoned the good clothes, and the Blessed One instructed not to abandon the good ones, so they abandoned the bad ones. The Blessed One instructed not to abandon the bad ones either, but to abandon the medium ones. After the Blessed One instructed not to abandon the alms bowl and Dharma robes, the monks did not know what to do. The Blessed One instructed: Give them to the poor monks. The group of six always pretended to be poor, and the Blessed One instructed: Do not give them to the group of six, but give them according to seniority. The newcomers did not receive them, and after the Blessed One inquired, the monk who answered the question informed the Sangha, and after all the monks of the Sangha gathered and sat down, the temple manager made an assessment in the Sangha. The origin of the story is in Shravasti. In Shravasti, a monk passed away, and his alms bowl and Dharma robes were placed in the hands of a nun. After the monks cremated his body, they returned to the temple to look for the alms bowl and Dharma robes, but they could not find them. They knew that in the nun's summer retreat, a nun named so-and-so had them, so they went to the nun's summer retreat and said: Holy Mother, please give us the alms bowl and Dharma robes of that deceased monk, the things that are placed here. She said: Venerable ones, where did that monk pass away? He passed away in our temple. Venerable ones, what is there in your place is yours, and what is here in our place is ours.

If asked why? (Because) we are also Dharma brothers, after saying this, such a thing happened, the monks reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One then ordered: The alms bowl and Dharma robes of a monk belong to the monks, nuns should not hold them. When in Shravasti, another nun passed away, and her alms bowl and Dharma robes were given to a monk. The nuns cremated her body and came to the nuns' summer retreat, searching for the alms bowl and Dharma robes but could not find them. Later, they learned that a monk named so-and-so in a monastery held them. So they came to the monastery, prostrated at the feet of the monks, and said: Venerable ones, the nun named so-and-so has passed away, if her alms bowl and Dharma robes are here, please return them to us. He replied: Where did that nun pass away? (They replied:) She passed away in our summer retreat. He then said: If that is the case, Holy Mother, it is your freedom to live there, but we have the freedom to own what is there, and she is also our Dharma sister. After saying this, such a thing happened, the nuns told the monks about this, and the monks reported to the Blessed One. That family abandoned him in the cemetery and hid the alms bowl and Dharma robes. Later, many nuns went wandering for alms and came to that rocky village, and that family saw them and said: Holy Mothers, this is the alms bowl and Dharma robes of the deceased monk who lived in my house, please take them.
