Explanation of Actions of Subduing, Lower Part. Explanation of Actions of Subduing, Lower Part. The Vinaya Scripture, Volume Twenty-Three. In brief: two boys and three hunchbacks, letters and the field of the Sangha, implements and pegs, wood and two kinds of bird nests. The Venerable Great Maudgalyayana liberated the sons of Anathapindika, as it is said in the Extensive Explanation. A householder invited the Buddha and the Sangha of monks under an umbrella. Among the Sangha of monks including the Buddha, a wandering monk stayed in the monastery and received alms. At that time, when the sons of Anathapindika were playing in Jeta Grove, they were stolen by deceitful people, and that monk heard about it. He learned a mantra, and not long after, he thought, "I should awaken them with this mantra." So he recited that mantra, and those deceitful people were surrounded by four divisions of troops, and they abandoned those children and fled. When the monks heard about this, they said to the monk, "This is a defeat." That monk felt remorse. The Blessed One said, "Monk, what did you think, that you liberated the children?" He replied, "I thought to awaken the mantra." The Blessed One said, "There is no fault in reciting the mantra." When the robes of the Sangha were distributed in the land of Kosala, a base monk went to another village, and he had two companions, and those two each received the robes of the Khenpo. After they received them, they asked each other, "Did you receive the robes of the Khenpo?" "You also received them, and I also received them, so it is not known who received them without authority, and a defeat has occurred." The Blessed One said, "There is no fault in receiving, but let others know." When the robes of the Sangha were distributed in the land of Kosala, a base monk went to another village. That monk had a friend, and he received his robes, and then he came.

And, saying thus: Venerable one, this is your robe, I have taken it and come. After saying that, I said I did not entrust you. That monk felt regret. The Blessed One taught: There is no defeat, do not take what is found without being entrusted. If taken, it will become an offense. When the robes were distributed in the Kosala region, a monk was sick, and his attendant took the robe and carried it away. That monk also passed away, and that monk did not know what to do. The Blessed One taught: If one has passed away before and then takes it later, then return it immediately. But if one takes it before and then passes away later, then treat it like other belongings. One monk said to another monk: Venerable one, come here. Taking from a small place without being given will not be a sin. The monks heard and reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One taught: The value should be calculated by one method. A householder was plowing the field of the Sangha, and a basic monk came and said: Householder, either give a share or do not plow the field. But he did not listen and continued to plow. That monk lay on the tip of the plow. Then that householder abandoned the plow and said: May I be separated from such a Shramana, slandering, abandoning, and saying unpleasant words. That monk felt regret. The Blessed One taught: There is no sin. In the future, monks should not make their bodies unsightly like this. One monk said to another monk: Venerable one, come here, even if we steal the property of the stupa, we two will not be guilty. The Blessed One taught: Monks, if the property of the stupa has a guardian, if the value is sufficient, it will become a defeat. A basic monk had the field of the Sangha plowed, and then not long after, a householder also plowed the field. That householder came and said: Venerable, do not plow my field. He replied: This is not yours, it is the field of the Sangha.

Saying, "The monk, I have shown non-human power," then, that householder dug out the stake that had been placed at the boundary earlier. After digging it out and showing it, he abandoned the plow, and after that householder left, he moved that stake inward and then plowed the field. That householder came back again and said, "Venerable one, since I have won, why are you still plowing the field?" That monk felt remorse. The Blessed One taught, "If the object is complete, then it becomes a defeat." A monk took a flower tree of a householder without being given it, and that monk felt remorse. The Blessed One taught, "If the object is complete, then it becomes a defeat." The fruit tree is also the same. A tree grew in the walking place of a monk, and sparrows built a nest on it, and they dropped branches and made noises while the monks were walking. He tore down their nest, and they made noises. The Blessed One taught, "Fool, fool, why are the sparrows making noises?" and scolded them. The monks were for tearing down the sparrows' nest. Do not tear down the sparrows' nest! Whoever tears it down commits a misdeed. The monk tore down the sparrows' nest and boiled dye, that is also similarly explained in detail. In short: Radish, sapling, fruit, and, Leaves, flowers, three kinds, Horse and rider, stealing, Ferrying across and jewels. When in Shravasti, a householder had a radish garden, and a monk went there and said, "Give me radishes." The householder said, "Venerable one, please pay." The monk said, "No pay." The householder asked, "How to give without pay?" The monk said, "For the sake of the Dharma, please give without charge." The householder said, "Venerable one, if everyone who comes here is given without charge, then we will have no food or clothes at all." The monk asked, "Don't you give even a little? Don't you donate even a little?" Having said that, he withered that radish garden with a mantra. The Blessed One taught, "Although it does not incur a defeat, it incurs a grave offense." Just like the radish garden, so are the sapling garden, the leaf garden, and the fruit garden. A horse was eating grass, and a monk
