Thus it is. Boundaries, lands, and such places, are the end of the Uposatha. Bhikshu: If a noble one prevents the Uposatha in the language of the noble ones, and those bhikshus do not understand the language of the noble ones, is this called preventing the Uposatha? Upali: No. Similarly, it should be explained in detail in four ways. Bhikshu: If a bhikshu prevents the Uposatha with a bodily gesture, is this called preventing the Uposatha? Upali: No. Bhikshu: If one perceives a secluded place as not secluded and prevents the Uposatha, is this called preventing it? Upali: No. Bhikshu: If a bhikshu makes himself invisible with a mantra or medicine and prevents the Uposatha, is this called preventing the Uposatha? Upali: No. Bhikshu: If one sees with a divine eye and prevents the Uposatha, is this called preventing the Uposatha? Upali: It is not called preventing, and the Sangha also includes the deceased. Bhikshu: If one hears with a divine ear and prevents the Uposatha, is this called preventing the Uposatha? Upali: No, the Sangha also includes the deceased. Bhikshu: If those within the boundary prevent the Uposatha for those outside the boundary, is this called preventing the Uposatha? Upali: No. Bhikshu: If one outside the boundary prevents the Uposatha for those within the boundary, is this called preventing the Uposatha? Upali: No. Bhikshu: If one dwelling on the ground prevents the Uposatha for those dwelling in the sky, is this called preventing the Uposatha? Upali: No. Bhikshu: If one dwelling in the sky prevents the Uposatha for those dwelling on the ground, is this called preventing the Uposatha? Upali: No. Bhikshu: Is it possible for a bhikshu in one direction to prevent the Uposatha for four people in four places? Upali: Yes. For example, if that bhikshu presses down on the boundary of the four places with wood, reeds, or clods of earth and prevents the Uposatha, this is called preventing. Bhikshu: Is there a case where a bhikshu prevents the Uposatha for another bhikshu, but it is not considered preventing? Upali: Yes. That is reciting the auspicious Uposatha. In short, the four things that were said should be remembered, the occasion and speech should be distinguished, and the delivery and prevention, these Uposathas
