Before the end of six days, the robe should be separated from outside the boundary. When the group of six monks knowingly separated for seven days, the monks reported it to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One convened the Sangha regarding this matter, this origin, and this occasion, etc., as before. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, knowingly commit offenses, etc., also as before. The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked the group of six monks: Monks, if a solitary monk is to separate the robe from outside the boundary before the end of six days. Is it true that you knowingly separate outside the boundary for seven days? Venerable ones, it is true. The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked, saying: This is not the behavior of a renunciant, it is not in accordance, it is not proper, it is not in accordance with the rules, this is not what a renunciant should do. Then, after rebuking in various ways, the Blessed One gave instructions to the monks: Monks, therefore, in order to fully see the ten benefits, the training ground of the Vinaya should be established for the Shravakas, etc., as before. My Shravakas should recite the training ground of the Vinaya in this way: Many monks spend the rainy season in residences, that is, in places called doubtful, called fearful, and called frightening due to various fears. If a solitary monk wishes, he may place any one of the three robes in another's house. If a solitary monk has a reason to go outside the boundary, then that solitary monk should separate the robe from outside the boundary before the end of six days. If he separates beyond this limit, he commits a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. Bhikshu means one who possesses this Dharma. Many means two or more. Residence means monastery. Solitary dwelling means six atoms make one ultimate atom.

It should be abandoned, therefore it is called an offense of expiation. Then, how does one incur an offense? For example, if a monastic bhikkhu separates from any of the three robes outside the boundary of the monastery, then he will incur an offense of expiation in all cases. Here or there, there are eight obstacles, namely: the fear of the king, the fear of thieves, the fear of fire, the fear of water, the fear of lions, the fear of tigers, the fear of humans, and the fear of non-humans. If any of these fears are present, there is no offense. A novice, a madman, one with a disturbed mind, and one afflicted by feelings do not incur an offense. The offense of expiation for separating for seven days, the twenty-seventh, is complete. The twenty-seventh, explaining the offense of expiation for separating for seven days.
